FC: our promise 8.21.2004

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. ~ God (Genesis 2:24)

On 12/22/2003, after we watched Lord of the Rings 3 and had our dinner together at Olive Garden, we went back to my house and had our annual Christmas gift exchange. We had done all the above events ever since we started dating back in 2001. Anyway, I gave Wil a sweater first. | Then, he took my favorite teddy bear upstairs and brought her back down with a new pink dress! I was like "how sweet!!!" He then handed her a scrapbook! A SCRAPBOOK from Wil was a surprise to me because I didn't think he was ever interested in arts & crafts. In the book, he put together a lot of pictures that we took together and with our friends and family in our two-year relationship. He put down a lot of his thoughts about the two of us. As I kept on flipping the pages till the end, he wrote: "Will you marry me???" I was in shock! He then knelt down with a beautiful ring. (Honestly, I never thought too much about diamond and all that!) Of course, I said "yes" to him. Guess who cried after that! Not me but Wil did. :P

Wil's successful proposal plan had many contributors. 1. Wil's family - Wil's sister (Michelle) and brother-in-law (Kerman) planned a jewelry party at their house back in summer. Again, I am not a jewelry person at all. But, Wil asked me to go so I went. Towards the end of the party, only few people left. And people tried to figure out what their ring size was. So I was asked to try those rings measuring my size. Guess mine was 4.5. Cluelessness is my nature. I didn't think too much about it. But, I guess his family was so eagerly waiting to find out my ring size so Wil could get the right engagement ring. They all felt relieved after they got my size. 2. My sneaky little sister - Wil had been planning the proposal with the help of my sister. She provided him my parents' Hong Kong phone numbers. So, he could call them to ask them for permission to marry me. And the pink dress for my teddy bear was actually from Brigitte! :) Wil came up with many proposal ideas and asked her what she thought I would like best! Guess my sister knows me well!!! She ruled out all those travel plans but chose the one that was the simplest. 3. My mom - She almost spilled the beans. She called me few days before my proposal and told me she received the best Christmas gift ever the other day. That got me to think a bit. I called her and she covered it up by saying she got admitted to a bible school. And I believed her! :P 4. Me - Good that I am clueless...so I didn't ruin his plan! After all, it is God who put us together since the day Wil and I became friends. He is definitely the big contributor to our friendship, relationship, and even marriage now. Thank you, God!

Our wedding day was on 8/21/2004. Praise God that the weather was wonderful. Wearing such a heavy gown could be a chore if it was a hot day. But, Wil did have some sweat bullets during the ceremony. People thought he was crying but in fact he was wiping his sweat. We definitely had a fun day with our families and friends.

I miss my wedding gown!! | wonder if I can still wear it?

Our wedding party was SUPER. We had so much fun taking pictures and playing together! It totally wasn't a stressful day!

Our wedding ceremony was at Portola Valley Presbyterian Church. We simply loved the coziness of this church and the big window to the woods which is a beautiful backdrop. We felt like the wedding was in the woods!

We had our reception at Palo Alto Golf and Country Club. The reception hall was beautiful and spacious. Oh food was good too! I think I ate a lot that night because my gown got tighter on me. :) All these beautiful setups were pretty much designed by my sister-in-law, Michelle. She took floral arrangement class because of our wedding. What a blessing! We didn't even need to hire a florist!

I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honor and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live.
