FC: Connor's First Year Birth - November
1: 59 hours until you arrived... | Family and nurses await your arrival.
2: Connor's Birth Story We went to the hospital Sunday night to start the induction process since he were supposed to be a big baby. I was hooked up to an IV of Cervidel to help thin out the cervix. I immediately felt cramps all night. I was then put on Pitocin all day Monday and with the administration of that, came the contractions! Wow! I was also administered saline so I would stay hydrated, but that made me have to go to the restroom about 80 times a day. This was a difficult task because I had to unhook 3 IV cords and take my IV contraption in with me each time. It was quite a process, but David helped me. After that whole ordeal on Monday...NOTHING! Shirley came in to check me and I was only dilated 1 cm. I was given another dose of Cervidel Monday night. After that, I was 1 cm and wiggle room! Enter Tuesday...Shirley came in to break my water and I was on Pitocin all day. The nurses encouraged me to walk the halls which is the LAST thing I wanted to do since I was so swollen! After I couldn't take one more contraction pain I was administered an epidural Tuesday night. I didn't like the feeling of not being able to move my legs. I was very uncomfortable. The next thing that I got was a clamp on my uterus and a balloon inserted that was filled with saline. This helped get me to 4 cm. That was as far as I got. Early Wednesday morning, my nurses and Shirley (who slept at the hospital) checked me at 1 am, 3 am and 5 am.
3: I wasn't progressing as I should have been so they said a c-section was probably the best route to take. I truly believe they did everything to try to get me to deliver naturally. David and I were at peace with the decision and for some reason, I had a feeling that I would end up having a c-section even before we arrived at the hospital. It may have been because before we got to the hospital Dad and Mom came over to pray for us and Dad prayed that the "surgeons" would have skill. We called both of our families and told them that the baby was coming within the hour and for them to come to the hospital. It was a long waiting process for them as well! We were taken into the O.R. and at 6:06 a.m. Connor David Buck was born! I'll never forget what he looked like when they held him over the curtain for the first time. I actually gasped aloud because he was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen in my life. It is amazing how much in love one can instantly be in with another human being! David originally went from not wanting to cut the cord to watching the entire c-section AND cutting the cord. He's a proud papa! We found out that the cord was wrapped around his neck twice and that is why I wasn't progressing. When he came out he had to have chest compressions and oxygen, but he's as healthy as they come! We thank God that there are alternate means and ways of delivering babies!
