2: A boy named Cesar was born near Yuma Mexico in 1927. His family had lived there since his grandfather had come there from Mexico. His family became migrant farmers after losing their family farm

4: Can you imagine working in the fields after 8th grade? | After 8th grade Cesar, had to start working in the fields also.

5: Cesar had to work in the fields because he had to help his family. His father was not able to work any longer. He had been in a terrible car wreck.

6: Cesar began to notice how badly the farm workers were treated. It was horrible.

8: Cesar served the Us during World War II in the Navy

9: He married Helen in 1948. They had 8 children and later had 31 grandchildren. | He returned to Arizona after the war, and went back to work in the fields.

10: In 1968 Cesar worked with friends to make a workers-rights group.

11: They were a peaceful group that wanted the workers to be treated fairly.

12: His organization created their own flag.

13: Cesar boycotted farms of farmers that did not treat their farmers well.

14: Others liked what they heard from Cesar so they followed him, and helped try to get farmers to treat all people with respect.

15: In 1968, Chavez organized a five-year "grape boycott," a movement that urged people to stop buying California grapes until farm workers were treated better.

17: To this day, the UFW and Chavez's children and grandchildren continue his fight for social justice. | In 1993, Cesar Chavez died of natural causes at the age of 66.

18: Cesar Chavez was a great Mexican-American man. He gave his life to making sure that the lives of migrant farm workers improved.
