BC: A Short History of the Jardin Botanique. 1817 The Jardin Botanique was first founded in 1817. At that time it was in the centre of Geneva near the Promenade des Bastions. 1902 The gardens were moved to the place where you can visit them now. 1913 The tropical Greenhouse was designed and then built. It was moved to where it is now, in 1935. Between 1967 and 1998 it was completely restored. 1955 The garden was enlarged from 90,000 square metres to 120.000 square metres. 1976 The Terre de Pregny was added to the gardens and eventually a special scented garden was planted there. There are also meadows with wild flowers. 1987 The greenhouse close to the Route Suisse was built. It was designed by Jean-Marc Lamunire, who was also the architect of our school at Pregny. This greenhouse has plants in it, which grow in a Mediterranean climate. Other greenhouses were built along the railway line at around the same time.
