4: This story is a about a girl who was born plain and was taught to carve, ends up getting caught up in many conflicts. Once her shadow is taken away from one the 'bad' characters, Linay, She and Taggle a cat that has helped her from the beginning have to fight to get her shadow back, before it is used for bad. These two go through quite an adventurous time. Can Kate defeat Linay with the help of her friends and get her shadow back? | Summary

5: Conflicts | Internal: The loss of her father External: Having to get her shadow back from Linay after he stole it from her.

6: Cause and Effects Relationships | 1. Kate and Taggle. Cause: Kate was an orphan Effect: Taggle came along and would help her. They became very good friends at the end. 2. Linay and Kate Cause: Linay saved Kate's life and she thought he was okay Effect: It turned out Linay liked to steal shadows and eventually stole hers. 3. Kate and Her Village Cause: Kate is a wonderful carver and her shadow is taken away Effect: The whole town thinks shes a witch.

7: Figurative Language | 1. " Her father had broken two fingers when a chisel slipped, and Kate thought it was the end of the world" Hyperbole 2. The knot of the people stirred. Personification 3. The trees whistled as the wind blew through them. Personification

8: Rating | I would have to rate this book as a four and a half out of ten. Why? The book was boring and was too confusing. I actually wanted to change my book. But, the book might be better for someone who likes historical fantasy. The book had a good storyline though.
