1: 132 Central Avenue , Salinas California Born: February 27, 1902 3rd Child Graduated high school in 1919

2: Dad: John Steinbeck Sr. (County Treasurer) Mom: Olive Steinbeck (School Teacher)

3: Began writing career in 1925. My first novel, Cup of Gold, was published in 1929, but not really accepted. The turning point in my writing career came after Tortilla Flat was published. The Grapes of Wrath was my best know novel. I recieved the Nobel Prize in 1962 for all of my literature accomplishments.

4: I married three times. My first wife was Carol Henning. We were married for 12 years until our divorce in 1942. I married my second wife in 1943 who was a singer. Her name was Gwyndolyn Conger. We had two children together, Thomas and John. We were unhappy so we divorced in 1949. In 1950 I married Elaine Scott and we are very happy together. Elaine, Thamas, John

6: During WWII I served as a war correspondent. I accepted a breif Bombs Away from Gen. Henry Arnold. He was to write it as an effort to increase Air Force Recruitment. I wrote gov. propaganda, The Moon is Down, about resistance movement in small towns ocupied by Nazis. I wrote Once There was a War to describe to the American people the conditions in which soldiers are living in. President Harry Truman is also trying to improve these conditions and help make peace throughout the world.
