The boundary between Clay and Leslie Cos. follows in part the Red Bird River. Aarons father immigrated from England and married a full blood Cherokee woman. Aaron is therefore half Cherokee. He was known by English speaking people as Chief Red Bird His indian name was Tsalagi' Ugvwiyuhi Totsu'hwa but some called him Cutsawah. Aaron married a full blood Cherokee woman and had 11 children by one account. See her bio for a list of 9. This story is well documented by letters from the Governor of Tennessee to the Cherokee Tribes in 1797: Edward Ned Mitchell and William Livingston murdered an Indian named Red Bird and an Indian named Lame Will. The above murder and his burial happened on the river bank named for him. This information is in part from From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia in an article by Lloyd Taylor.
