FC: Our little sunshine
You are my sunshine My only sunshine You make me happy When skies are grey You'll never know dear How much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away
Hi there!!! I am here finally!! - Kayli Our little sunshine finally arrived! She was born at 10:11pm on 8/21/07 which was also our 3-year anniversary. She weighed 7lbs 11oz. What a big baby! Her length at birth was 22in. She definitely got daddy's genes. She was born at Washington Hospital in Fremont which is the same place where her daddy was born. | The delivery process wasn't as smooth as we expected. So, our little Kayli came out with some grunting noise. She was then sent to the Special Care Nursery for observation. Praise God that after staying at the SCN for 3 days she was discharged to go home with us on 8/24/07!
Kayli's first month -- Since she is our first little child, Kayli had to go through a lot of mistakes that we made in the first two weeks. The major mistake that we made was not feeding her enough. We were afraid to overfeed her. So, at times when she seemed hungry, we tried to wait till the right hour to feed her. No wonder! She was a crying machine in the first two weeks. We thought we had a colicky baby. Thank God that her pediatrician told us to be guided by her demand. After we learned that babies can't be overfed, she is a happy and calm baby on the block!
Though sometimes we still have no clue why Kayli fusses or acts in certain way, we noticed that we have came a long way to learn more about her comparing to day 1. It's hard to imagine life without her. There are times we can get so frustrated because of tiredness. But, once she smiles at us, our heart can be just melted away. We love her dearly already!!
Kayli's second month -- We can't believe how fast the first month flew by. We could hardly emember the hard time that we went through for the first few weeks already. Now, Kayli is able to be playful with people. She started to smile towards the end of the 4th week. Her neck muscle was getting stronger around that time too. Her neck is quite stiff. She began to wake up only once at night.
Kayli and Boppy One night after dinner at El Torito, we cane home and Kayli was kind of fussy. Sometimes we just ran out of tricks to distract her. So, I just put the Boppy around her She was quite amused by that and she was able to sit up with a pillow support her head. With that, for a while she was calm and happy!
Kayli and Gooli With Kayli around these days, I hardly hug my favorite teddy bear, Gooli. If Gooli has feelings, I am sure she is sad that I don't hug her as much. All these remind me of Toy Story. :) Anyway, I hope that as Kayli grows up, she will play with Gooli more and will treasure her as well.
In the second month, we learned more about Kayli. We knew what she likes and what she doesn't like. She loves to jump, loves to be in the swing and the bouncy chair, etc. Towards the end of the second month, her fussiness really did subside. We just have to now work on her nap time. She is a good sleeper at night already. We don't take that for granted. :)
Kayli's third month - In this month the biggest event is the baby dedication ceremony. On 11/18, she was dedicated to the Lord in the presence of the congregation. We know that Kayli's future in the Lord's hand and we know we just need to obey Him to be the best parents we could. And for sure we'll learn each day how to be the kind of parents God desires us to be.
Kayli was definitely more aware of her surrounding in this month. She loved her infant massage class. She started to enjoy bathing more. She smiled a lot more than before too. She began to nap a bit better. Before she always cried when I put her down. In this month, there was definitely progress in her. :) | She started to get quite chubby! But, look how small she was comparing to us.
Kayli responded to us a lot more. She smiled or tried to make all kinds of sounds. She also began to like the Tiny Love little gym. She would stare at the toys that were hanging up there. She didn't grab them yet. But, sometimes she could be fascinated by the colorful toys! We also felt a lot more confident as parents. Kayli seemed to be a bit more predictable. Or, maybe we were more used to her. Either way, we all were learning about each other.
Kayli's first Thanksgiving, first Christmas Tree and first cold - In the fourth month, Kayli went through a couple of things. She celebrated her first Thanksgiving! We took her to OSH to shop for her very first Christmas Tree. It was a Douglas Fir. And she had her very first cold after Thanksgiving. Oh! Of course she began to sleep through the night once she turned 3 months old!
Right after Thanksgiving, we went to OSH to shop for a Christmas Tree. OSH is just a block down from our house. So, Wil drove to OSH because he had to put the tree in his car in order to bring it home. I put Kayli in the sling and walked there. It was just a 30-minute trip. It was just something memorable!
Our chubby baby with her bald spot
It's quite nice that sometimes Kayli could've fallen asleep on the little gym mat while we were eating. She had her tummy time there. It's a lifesaver to us! :)
Kayli's fifth month - In this month, Kayli not only celebrated her first Christmas but also her first New Year. On the Christmas Day, we went to Uncle Tim's house for a family Christmas gathering. Prior than that, we went on to the Nile Train with our immediate family. Eh...Kayli was crying the whole time on the train. Shortly after her cold, Kayli had her first diarrhea for 2 weeks non stop. Poor thing. She saw the doctors a few times in those two weeks. Ultimately it went away. Praise God. Her butt was so red due to the diarrhea. But, she was a strong girl. On the New Year day, we went to visit our neighbors, Kishore, Neeraja and Nikil.
Maybe Kayli was tired or was bothered by her tummy bug or simply fussy, she was crying for the whole hour train ride. After we got home, she crashed right a way. Poor thing. Well, we hope that next year if we go again, she will enjoy the ride!
Clueless - Silly - Sleepy BABY
Kayli likes to hold her hands together. So cute! | She was a lot more playful in this month. She started to roll around but didn't roll over yet. Turning around in the crib was definitely an entertainment to her. | When she was out, she had no idea what went on around her. Look -->
WHAT CAN SHE DO NOW? In the 6th month, Kayli made one of the BIG milestones. She rolled over finally. However, she didn't know how to roll back when she first rolled on tummy. She would cry for help from us. She LOVES her thumb! She never sucked her thumb that much until this month. And she loved to grab stuff and covered herself with her burp cloth, clothes, teddy bears, etc.
One thing for sure she loved to do is to put her feet against the bed rails. She did that all the time in order to fall asleep or entertained herself.
If there was something next to her face, she would just grab it and lick it and put it over her face. Sometimes we put her new change of clothes next to her then we walked away for a bit. When we returned, we noticed her new change of clothes were all wet with her drool!
