S: Winnie on Wheels
BC: This book tells the story of my "furry" sister, Winnie. After suffering a spinal injury, Winnie's quality of life was greatly improved by the use of a custom-made cart.
FC: Winnie on Wheels By: Micky Worley-Smith
I am Winnie, dog on wheels. However, I wasn't born with wheels. I began my life as an ordinary dachshund...
Scarcely higher than a blade of grass-not yet grown into my tail or ears.
I lived with my mom and dad, playing and relaxing.
I loved to sit on my hind legs to get attention and special treats.
I had a talent for chasing my ball. | I also liked going on trips with my parents.
It was fun to go camping in the travel trailer. Here I am relaxing with dad.
I enjoyed playing outside every season of the year.
Everything changed when I injured my spine. I had surgery and went home to recover. Even after my surgery, my back legs didn't work the same. I felt sad and confused.
But then my sister Micky found out about something that could help me. | My parents measured me around and up and down and from nose to tail. They ordered my very own custom-made, upholstered, padded cart! It was the perfect fit.
I was off on my wheels into the world. I was now able to walk myself around the yard, campground, and playground.
I could do all the things I did before like chasing after squirrels and sniffing around the yard.
I still love to travel with my parents, and I am still the object of much affection. I am Winnie, dog on wheels!
 Additional pictures of Winnie
 Winnie on Christmas Day 2006
 Winnie loves her present!
 What a sweet face!
Note from the author: Although Winnie's story is true, this book was inspired by and modeled after Gretchen the Bicycle Dog by Anita Heyman. It was the best example of a text-to-self experience that I have ever had.
