The Lady of Shalott - Page Text Content

FC: The Lady of Shalott Alfred, Lord Tennyson

1: This poem is about a woman who is locked from outside the world by a picture of Camelot on a tapestry woven by her. Without the realization of being cursed, every day, she would weave a reflection of Camelot. She sees the world through that picture. One day she looks outside her window and finds knights riding by and notices Lancelot. This brought about her curse. Then, she left the tower or castle she was in and put herself to die on a boat to Camelot. Lancelot said "She has a lovely face; God in his mercy lend her grace, The Lady of Shalott." This shows that he has mercy on her and is praying for her. In my opinion, I believe the curse was her lonely heart. She wanted to see the world a certain way. When she saw Lancelot, she knew she could not have him in her life and so her heart was broken. As a result, she had committed suicide.
