FC: Their Eyes Were Watching God Imagery Project | By: Golda Peysakhova

In the book "Their Eyes Were Watching God" Hurston uses imagery for Janie many times. Janie has a goal in this story, and the image that would represent her goal is a pear tree. Her goal is to find love and when a pear tree blossoms it is a beautiful sight. The symbol that represents her relationships would be her hair, because when she was happy she combed it, and when she was unhappy with her marriage she would wear it up or in a rag. An other symbol that Hurston used would be the mule, it represented her expectations from other people.

One goal that Hurston uses in the book for Janie is the Pear Tree. | "Oh to be a pear tree-any tree in bloom!" (Hurston 11)

The pear tree is very important in "Their Eyes Were Watching God". Janie's goal in this book is to find her pear tree. That means to find her true love and she represents it with the tree. In the quote she says how she would love to bloom like the tree. A pear tree is very beautiful when it blooms, so she wants to be just like the tree. I think that this is a very interesting goal, to find true love.

"The great rope of black hair swinging to her waist..."(Hurston 2) | One imagery for relationships for Janie would be her hair.

Her hair is very important in this book. When she was with Tea Cake her hair would be combed in many pretty ways. With Logan or Joe her hair would be either in a rag or up and not pretty. Like in the very beginning of the book before the flash back it says that her hair is flowing at her back. So, you can see that her hair is very important. I think that the quote i chose talks about how she is happy cause she is letting her hair swing to her waist.

"The black woman is de mule uh de world as fur as Ah can see." (Hurston 14) | The mule represents expectations for Jaine in the book.

The mule is also very important in the novel because it is an imagery for Janie's expectations. Joe bought the mule for Janie because his owner didn't care for him. So, Joe bout it for Janie to take care of and do stuff instead of just sitting there. The mule dies and it is really tragic. The mule represents her expectations because she wasn't treated well and the mule wasn't treated well as well. As in the quote when her grandma says that women are like the mule of the world.

 About Me

In my life i have imagery as in the book. For example for my goals you can use a microscope. For my expectations I would have to say an A+. For what influences me I can use my family and friends

Imagery-the formation of mental images, figures, or likenesses of things, or of such images collectively

Imagery for goals for me would be a microscope.

One goal for me would be a microscope. The reason for that is because when i grow up i want to graduate college and become a biologist. I thought the microscope would best represent my goal of being a biologist.

For expectations for me I picked an A+.

My parents and a lot of other people expect me to get A's on a lot of my grades. That is why I picked an A+ for my expectations. | A+

People that influences me in my life would be my family and friends.

My family and my friends influence me and my life the most. Without them life would be awful. I love my family and all of my close friends.

"Their Eyes Were Watching God" was a very good book and some people may actually be able to relate. I think it was a good book to read and it taught me a lot of important lessons.

If my life was written as a book, i could use imagery in many ways. For goals i would have a telescope, for expectations i would have an A+, and for influences i would have my family and friends.
