With them they bring | a pail and a shovel | a kite | and an umbrella. | towels

The tide is low so Lexie and Sydney dig holes and put the clams they find into a bucket.

Lexie and Sydney look for creatures in the big puddles left by the tide | starfish | snail | little fish | crab

Lexie and Sydney walk on the wet shore and smell the salty air. | Lexie finds a long piece of seaweed and pretends she is a movie star.

Sydney writes her name in the sand with a driftwood stick.

The sun rises high in the sky. Auntie brings the girls a picnic lunch. Lexie and Sydney sit on their towels under the umbrella and eat peanut butter and banana sandwiches. They feed the crusts of their bread to the seagulls.

After lunch, Lexie and Sydney build a sandcastle. Lexie digs a moat and Sydney collects shells.

 A very fancy sandcastle indeed!

Lexie and Sydney take turns flying the kite. They run along the beach letting out string until the kite looks like a dot in the sky. Lexie and Sydney play and play and play all day...

The tide gets high and water settles onto the beach. | Lexie and Sydney smile as the waves crash into the sandcastle, and they watch it melt into the sea...

 That is their favorite part!

The sun starts to set and it is time to go home...

Lexie, Sydney, and Auntie eat dinner as nighttime comes and the moon glows in the dark sky.

Auntie takes Lexie and Sydney into the back yard and shows them how the stars make pictures like a big dot-to-dot puzzle. Auntie calls them constellations and she shows Lexie and Sydney the Big Dipper

Lexie and Sydney stretch and yawn, tired from their busy day. Auntie hugs them and kisses them and tucks them into bed.

The lights go off in the window in back and the window in front of the little grey house where Lexie, Sydney, and Auntie are all fast asleep.
