FC: Our Honeymoon in Jamaica July 5th-14th, 2008

In the beginning... A romantic beachside proposal, 10 months of planning and one glorious day to vow our life long love to each other. Then, we started life as one. Our beginning would have been blissful spent anywhere, but it certainly didn't hurt to have nine days in paradise to enjoy our continued walk on cloud 9. Here are some of the memories we made in our first week of marriage on the island of Jamaica...

July 5th After the wedding | Before hitting up the island, we spent 2 nights at the Ritz Carlton in Dearborn, Michigan. It was a very luxurious way to begin our Honeymoon!

July 6th With no reason to leave, we spent a lazy day in bed reflecting and enjoying room service (the Grilled Cheese was incredible!)

July 7th | Travel to Jamaica | Two planes and one bus tour to the south side of the island... | and we finally arrive at Sandals Whitehouse!

To celebrate our first night in Jamaica we ventured from our room to explore the evening buffet, including the quintessential island drink in a coconut!

July 8th We started out with room service on our patio overlooking the ocean

The Sandals Whitehouse pool... complete with swim up bar!

A perfect pool for a sun soak!

 Sunset Portraits Compliments of Hedley

After a romantic dinner at the Bayside restaurant, we attended the caberet for music and a little dancing!

July 9th Black River & YS Falls | We ventured off the island on a river safari, complete with...

Crocs! | and plenty of them...

After escaping the possibility of becoming crocodile buffet, we enjoyed a traditional Jamaican lunch including jerk chicken, rice and beans and festivals (fried corn bread). Then, we continued our journey to the YS falls, where we were sure to follow all the rules, especially number 5...

 The YS falls were breathtaking!

Matt couldn't get enough thrills jumping into the falls!

We returned from our day of safari to a very pleseant surprise... a note from our concierge offering a special honeymooner breakfast in bed for any day we chose!

We wrapped up our day with dinner at Jasmine's and martini's | We enjoyed the company of Jonathon and Angela, fellow honeymooners wed on July 5th from St. John's, Canada.

July 10th After eggs benedict with smoked salmon and a couples' massage class, we hit the beach for some sunshine. Unfortunately the rain came in a bit early...

So we took a nice long afternoon nap. Once the clouds cleared, we enjoyed a beautiful sandy beach walk. Jen found the clam shell very amusing.

We were having fun taking self-portraits when, to our advantage, we ran into Hedley! He was happy to take more beautiful shots for us.

Later, we were lucky enough to have reservations for the Pirates of the Caribbean dinner!

On our way to the evening caberet performance, we stopped to check on the peacock nest. | Then we enjoyed a great dance performance by a Jamaican dance company!

July 11th | Friday afternoon we ventured out to sea for a little snorkeling

We had fun, and explored for a while until Jen's motion sickness ended the excursion

After rinsing off the salt water, it was time to get pampered at the Red Lane Spa | Another rainy afternoon pushed our massages indoors, but they were still wonderful!

And the clouds cleared up nicely for a very romantic private dining experience on the beach

Who else would show up to capture the moment but our favorite photographer, Hedley, who seemed to find our faces complimentary to his camera.

July 12th | Another adventure away from the resort! We toured the jungle of Jamaica via zip lines in the trees

With the help of our charismatic instructors, we sailed from tree to tree | We felt a little like Jane and Tarzan!

July 13th Our last day in Jamaica, we made the most of our time to be beach bums and enjoyed a lazy day, beginning with "breakfast" at about 12 noon by the ocean, where we were occompanied by some not-so-shy birds ready for our leftovers! | Jen's run-in with the ocean continued that afternoon when she was stung by a small jellyfish. But the walk to the nurse was redeemed by a siting of the newly hatched peacock chicks!

One more delicious, all inclusive dinner and martini rounded off the perfect trip, hopefully to be repeated again someday! Although sad to leave, Matt and Jen had no complaints as they boarded the plane back to the Bay Area and to begin "real life" together.
