FC: The Story of David and Angel | The Story of David and Angel

My mother always told me that I would probably meet the man of my dreams where I least expected it. Who would have known that I would meet my future husband in a dentist's office?

I had the pleasure of wearing braces on my teeth for two years. | Once a month, my mother would take my sisters and I to the dentist's office in Findlay to get our braces adjusted. While there, we'd wait in the waiting room while each of us had a turn in the dentist's chair.

One wonderful visit I decided to peruse through a 1997 Findlay High School yearbook. I turned to the pages where the class votes on people with the best athleticism, car, personality, etc. My eyes were drawn to a boy named David. He was voted "Best Smile" and "Most Attractive" according to his classmates. I must say, I had to agree with them.

After that visit, I looked forward to going to the dentist's office so I could look at David's picture. I told my mother, "I'm going to marry that boy!" She said, "That's nice, Angel."

In the Spring of '98, my sister, Shena, gave me a call. She was working in the Financial Aid Office at Bluffton College. She said, "Oh my gosh, Angel, your dream guy goes here!" I was thrilled with this news because I was already planning on attending BC the following fall.

I entered my freshman year at BC and I immediately loved college! I went down to the cafeteria to eat with my friends and there he was!! I walked right up to him and said, "You were voted 'Best Smile' and 'Most Attractive' in high school!" He just looked at me, said, "No, I wasn't," and walked away.

I made a complete dork out of myself and I'm sure I embarrassed him. I begrudgingly avoided him after that. I believed that if anything was meant to happen, then it would happen on its own.

During my sophomore year, my friend, Nichole, was going to a Halloween party with a boy named Chad. Nichole invited me and Chad was told to invite Evan (a boy I thought was good looking). Apparently, Evan had a rough football game earlier that day and wanted to stay home. Chad invited his roommate instead at the last minute. His roommate was David! We had a good time at the party and got to talk to each other and dance at Junction. Unfortunately, David had a girlfriend and I was single. It was just bad timing.

Eventually, I dated Jeff while David continued to date Amberly. Jeff and Amberly were from the same town in Illinois so I knew that meant that David and I were probably visiting them at the same time during school breaks! What a small world!

My junior year of college I had saved up money to go somewhere for Spring Break. I had time off work and I had been tanning so I wouldn't get burnt. The plan was to go to Sarasota, Florida with Jeff to stay with his grandparents. Right before I picked up our plane tickets he said he no longer felt like going. I was talking to my friend, Brandon and I told him that I would go with him and his gang and be their driver. I knew that he was going with eight guys from the basketball team to Panama City, Florida.

I wasn't being serious with Brandon, but to my amazement, the next day he said, "I got the 'go-ahead' from all the guys if you want to go with us." I packed my bags and left for P.C. the next day. Jeff was not too happy about it, but I told him that I needed a vacation. David happened to be one of the guys who went on the trip and I found out he wasn't too happy that a girl was going. He thought I'd report back to all the girlfriends back home. I truly wanted to go to relax and read a book on the beach.

David didn't pay me any attention during the first day of the trip. We all went out to a club and I was trying to avoid this creepy guy who was constantly trying to dance with me. Out of nowhere, David approached me and asked me if I wanted to dance. I literally looked behind me and then at him and said, "Who, me?" He just smiled and led me to the dancefloor. We danced together all night. Creepy guy never came back.

David was such an easy person to talk to and I didn't want to go home. I knew what had to be done once I got there. Ending my relationship with Jeff wasn't easy, but I knew I was supposed to be with David.

David waited until I was nice and single to pursue me, but once he did, he never stopped. We dated for 7 months before we got engaged on October 5th, 2001. We were married on September 14th, 2002.
