FC: A Bobbitt State of Mind

1: A Bobbitt State of Mind | George Sydney Bobbitt, who as an adult was always called "G.S.", was reportedly adopted. Assumed to be an only child, GS became a big preacher, pastor of Brown Chapel Church. GS married Millie Payton, who had one sister; named Julia who lived in Greenville, North Carolina. Millie was a short, pretty woman who liked to dance. All the grandchildren loved their grandmother Millie. GS and Millie had five children: two sons and three daughters. The eldest son was Walter Lee called WL, and Ernest. Their three daughters were Lillie, who had one daughter Anna Lee; Agnes, who had no children, and Ellen, who had one son, "Boot". WL (Walter Lee) married Annie Elizabeth Waters in 1918. Annie Waters was the daughter of Jacob and Hattie Waters. WL and GS were often a father & son preaching team. GS was a full-time preacher, while Walter Lee was a pastor but also had a job with the City of Wilson. Annie had two sisters - Rose - who married a Winley and a half-sister Lutie Mae who stayed in Little Washington, NC. Annie had three brothers - Haywood, Rob and Thomas. A fourth brother died in the Army. When Annie's brother Thomas and his wife Margie separated, two of their children - Mabel and Emma - went to live with Annie and Walter Lee and their children. Walter Lee and Annie Bobbitt had eight children: Arthur James 1918 - 1986 ~ Esther 1920 - 2005 ~ Lillian 1923 - 2007 Justine 1925 - 2001 ~ Priscilla 1927 - 1991 ~ Julia Mae 1929 - 2004 Ella Mae 1931 - 2006 ~ son, stillborn, 1933 Walter Lee and Annie were married in Beauford County and their first child, Arthur James was born there, but all the other children were born in Wilson, NC. The house at 109 Stantonsburg Street had many memories - not only as the last house where Walter Lee and Annie Bobbitt lived but also because at various times their children and grand-children also lived there. One of the last home births at 109 was Priscilla’s baby girl, Peggy. Other relatives lived further down on Stantonsburg Street. At 311 lived Papa's Sister Aunt Lilly and her hat-wearing, stand-up eating husband Mr. Joe and Aunt Lilly's daughter Anna Lee, and Anna Lee's daughter Barbara Jean. Also on Stantonsburg St. lived Aunt Ellen and her son. Walter Lee died in 1953; Annie died from cancer of the liver in 1957.
