5: The Korean War started in 1950 and 1953. The United States fought on behalf of South Korea. They weren't ready to fight another war, but they had to help their fellow country. We won in the end.
6: Cold War | The Cold war was mainly between the United States and Russia. | The United States and Russia were allies during World War II, but after the war Russia became distrustful. | When the Space Race began the distrust between Russia and the US grew.
8: Marilyn Monroe was a popular icon and entertainer, growing to an on screen sensation | Pop culture was a major influence on Americans in the 1950s as they are today. Television was becoming an everyday use in the lives of families across the country while sitting down to enjoy a TV dinner. Movies were catching people's attention, especially when 3-D entered the theaters.
9: Pop Culture | Fashion had a great impact on the women of America as well. Older women tended to wear professional tailored clothing while younger women would most likely be seen in poodle skirts and saddle shoes. Stiletto heels were also popular, as well as hats, gloves, flared hair, and bright red lipstick.
