22: Two classic SAAB's are set to compete in 19th running of the New England Firest rally starting on Friday July 16th . The two day event will feature over 100 miles of tough rally stages and is hosted at Sunday River Resort in Newry, Maine. Also raising a lot of excitment is the return of a North American SAAB rally legend Mike White to the wheel after many years. Mike's well known for his successfull campaign of a 1980 SAAB 99 in the late 90's and he's at it again this time with a well prepared 1984 SAAB 900 entered in Group 2 class.

24: DRIVERS MEETING | M O R N I N G T E C H | Challenging logging roads with some of the longest stages on the circuit set the tone for the New England Forest Rally. Always a favorite with drivers due to the technical demands of the course, this rally is also a crowd pleaser because of its stunning scenery and wildlife. Quintessential northeastern settings such as winding creeks and one-lane bridges add not only beauty to the race, but also added excitement when encountered by drivers at breakneck speeds.
25: PARK EXPOSE: SUNDAY RIVER | The team of Sorensen/Jenny have once again entered their 1975 SAAB 99 in Group 5. They are fresh off a class win at STPR in June and excited to be returning to Maine again this year. 26: DAY 1 | Not a very lucky day 1 Alot of teams were coming back in with problems.the boys were doing great. i think 3rd in 2wd and then late afternoon they shredded that tire mid stage,couldnt get the car jacked up so they had to roll the car up onto a large rock to get the jack to work. after this, they start running out of gas and have to stop at a station that only had 87 to fuel the car enough to get back to service. THEN...1minute after leaving for the last stage they called and said they had no power steering cause all the fluid leaked out....and ended up borrowing some fluid from another racer. they lost 7 minutes on stage dealing with that flat tire so they are way behind

28: Don't try this at home. Cambered the car a little but still drove away | The thing that the photos don't show well is just how fast we were actually going at impact... we left the car in 3rd gear because of the open nature of the other chicane on stage and didn't even see the ditch until about 15 feet before impact, about a 45-50 MPH or so... the way it felt in the car I was pretty sure we'd be completely missing at least 1 wheel, we were lucky to drive away with only a flat tire and custom alignment.

36: Rally-moto competitor and former Saabrally co-driver Seth Strait will once again take the right seat as co-driver for the event. Seth has intimate knowledge of the event both as a competitor and co-driver. | The rally car was updated with a new gearbox with shorter gearing for the twisty stages of lewis county and new bump stops for the many jumps on the famous "goose pond" stage.

39: First night is over without incident except for a broken jack. Did A quick ball joint change at last service.
40: A very tired luke at Park expose | DAY TWO | We went into the event with the definite goal of taking the 2wd victory, but it proved to be more difficult than expected. On the first two stages on saturday we had turbo hoses blow off mid-stage..We did our best to carry speed where possible and did a good job of minimizing the amount of time we lost. We fixed the issue during transit with spare hose clamps and safety wire we had in the car (good things to carry) Then at service we noticed that an upper ball joint had started to develop a bit of play, | DAY ONE SUMMARY...
41: SERVICE IN | we made plans to change it at the next service as a preventative measure. The loose one held out fine for the next 3 stages and when we returned the crew had everything prepared to swap the joint. We had 20 minutes to get the car in the air, swap the joint, check all fluids, top up fuel and have the car back on the ground at the checkout point. We were using a borrowed jack as ours had broken during the first service. The jack didnt lift quite as high and we struggled to get the car onto the jack stands, and lost valuable minutes. We had some issues finding a wrench to fit the big nut on the ball joint and then some issues with the cross bolts being slightly large for the bore in the ball joint. Jason and I struggled through and tried not to get in each others way and had the car back down on the ground in 21 minutes. We pulled through the control right as the minute turned to 22 and ended up with a 20 second penalty. Not bad, but not what we needed having lost serious time due to the turbo hose issues on the first two stages.
42: We ended saturday 4 seconds back from the nearest 2WD competitor on stages times and with the penalty that meant 24 seconds needed to be made up
43: CREW SPECTATING...
44: Successful weekend. Despite a few minor setbacks, intake couplings popping off, floor Jack failures, a questionable ball joint, and a few other small issues. We kept our heads together and managed to come away with a 1st in 2wd. And 4th overall. | FINAL RESULTS | Final Stage Times | Vintage Rally Car Championship | Not wanting to settle for 2nd place and with hopefully the little nagging issues from a recent motor installation behind us, we really turned up the wick on Sunday. Seth was really getting in the groove with the notes and the car was running beautifully. We swapped to a fresh set of tires and we were really flying! A few stages were canceled due to medical/radio and spectator issues and we started to get nervous that we wouldnt have the mileage we needed to regain the lead. Another turbo hose coming loose on a stage launch gave us further doubts and frustration. Then on Jayville we took back 17 seconds, with a 3rd overall fastest stage time. On the final stage "fullerville" we went into max attack mode and with another 3rd overall fastest time (only 9 secs back from the lead open class EVO) we clinched the win. A great hard earned finish.

56: you cant keep a good SAAB down! broken cv joint day one.... day 2 loss of power steering, ran off the road w/ a near roll followed by seth crawling out the drivers side of the car while the car is half hanging over the drop off...towed back onto the road and kept on going to finish....unfortunately the gopro battery was dead at this point so we dont get to see the action first hand. | Luke kept the car out of the ravine, Seth kept them on the notes. Jordan managed to keep the car in tune, I kept the team entertained with stories about three legged horses. And let's not forget Stacy, she kept our bellies full all weekend. Other teams with much larger crews made us look like a well oiled machine.
57: NEFR 2011 | The 2011 event schedule has been set and NEFR will take place Friday July 15th and Saturday the 16th. The event will once again be hosted by the Sunday River Ski Resort located in Newry, Maine, with portions again expected to take place in Mexico, ME and Errol, NH.
