FC: OUR ALASKAN ADVENTURE | June 17 -27 2011
Ready to go cruising! | A long day of travel from Saskatoon | Special treatment for special passengers. | June 17, 2011 | Our trip started with a two hour bus ride from Anchorage to Seward. What wonderful Alaskan scenery!
Beautiful Seward, Alaska | Our first look at our ship, The Radiance of the Seas
HUBBARD GLACIER June 18, 2011 The Hubbard Glacier is the largest tidewater glacier in North America. The glacier's face is more than 6 miles across and 300 feet high. It takes about 400 years for ice to travel the length of the glacier, meaning that the ice at the foot of the glacier is about 400 years old. The glacier routinely calves off icebergs the size of a ten-story building.
We spent most of the day inching our way to the face of the glacier. We got close enough to hear all the noise of the ice breaking off into the ocean. We also saw lots of seals playing among the ice flows.
Juneau - June 19 | Chatting with the boat captain | One of the many bald eagles we saw | A cool day on board! | Humpback whale
While we were in Juneau, we spent the morning whale watching and the afternoon at Mendenhall Glacier. | Seals in Gastioneau Channel | Mendenhall Glacier
Skagway - June 20 | The junior Gaytons spent the morning horseback riding in Dyea.
The girls on their dog sled | And the senior Gaytons spent the morning dog sledding.
 Icy Strait Point | June21
We spent the morning in port and then hit the spa on the ship for the afternoon to get ready for the Captain's Dinner that night.
In Ketchikan we all did our own thing. The grammas went shopping and sight seeing. Barb went hiking. Gayle went to an interpretive demonstration.
Ketchikan | And Patty and Karen went salmon fishing! Patty even got to take some fish home to her boys. | June 22
The ship and the scenery were incredible!
Thanks to Patty, we got a tour of the ship's galley. It's amazing how they can serve so many meals and prepare so much food each day! And all of it was delicious.
 Such a good looking trio!
So many great photo opportunities and so many great memories, What a wonderful way to re-connect with family.
We arrived back in Vancouver the morning of June 24. After collecting our luggage, we all squeezed into a rental vehicle and headed out to Langley to visit with the Howe family.
We were so fortunate to be able to see Aunt Alpha and her family.
We enjoyed a day of sight seeing at White Rock.
Back at the Abbotsford airport and ready to go home. It appears that the grammas are having a group prayer - most likely hoping that their luggage doesn't exceed the weight limits!
