Alexandria and the Magic Penny Written and Illustrated by Debbie Miller Miller Publishing 2011
Once upon a time there was a beautiful young princess, named Alexandria. She lived in a castle in the forest.
Alexandria loved to play every day in the palace grounds with the talking animals and plants. Each day she also talked with her father, King Rodney and asked to see his prized possession, his Magic Penny. He kept that Magic Penny in a necklace which he always kept safely around his neck. Alexandria always hoped the king would one day give her the Magic Penny as a gift.
Alexandria waited and waited until she could not stand it any longer...she just had to have that Magic Penny. Since she was a smart princess, she decided to make a plan to take the Magic Penny from the king and replace it with an ordinary penny.
All things grow better with love. | So one day when the king was setting out on dangerous journey to mow the castle lawn, the cunning princess told the king that she would look after his Magic Penny while he was out, keeping it safe from falling under the lawn mover and being cut into a million pieces.
Once the king was outside and the mover running, the Princess switched the magic penny for an ordinary one. She was enjoying her stolen treasure when she heard a scream from the king...
Outside she found the king and her friend the goat, who was stuck under the mower!!! The king said to bring the necklace with the magic penny quickly!!! When Alexandria returned with the necklace, the king tried and tried to use the magic of the penny to free the goat. But it would not work!!!
At last Alexandria had to go into her pocket and reveal that all along, she had the magic penny. Once she gave it to the king, he was able to free the goat. the king was very upset that Alexandria had taken the penny, but glad that in the end she made the right choice and saved her friend. The king told her that although she was to get the penny at her next birthday, he had decided she would now wait an extra year for the gift and hopefully learn her lesson to never steal again.
