1: Anglo- Saxon Woman By: Katrina A. Burris

2: OLD TIME COOKING

3: * Cooking in Anglo- Saxon England wasn't a task for only housewives. * The peasants usually cooked for themselves, because they couldn't hire a cook. * Their cooking methods were limited due to the amount of time their daily jobs took * They mainly prepared meals by stewing. This due to the lack of attention it needed to prepare.

4: A DIFFERENT TYPE OF LIFE

5: * Their daily life depended on her social class. * The women were the only ones allowed to serve drinks. This was considered one of her many jobs. | * The women also did work in the field. * They picked crop, planted seeds, etc.

6: A DIFFERENT TYPE OF LOVE

7: * Attitudes to women were mostly dominated by class than sex in Anglo- Saxon England *The distinctions for women were slaves vs, free, and virgin vs. married vs. widow. | * Because they were allowed to choose their spouses, marial relationships could be very rewarding.This being due to the land, or personal possession given to the wife by the husband. | * The word friendship was used to describe the relationship between a husband and wife.

8: A DIFFERENT TYPE OF FAMILY

9: * Sons and daughters were considered equally important in the family. | * Families or friendships as they call them could be formed men, and women more remotely related.

10: CLOTHING

11: * The basic clothing was a peplos dress. *It was a tubular garment that clasped at the shoulders, this leaving the arms uncovered. In warmer weather the dress was worn alone, but in winter they wore the dress with under garments.

12: WOMEN OF THE ARTS

13: * Women who did art are not looked on favorably by their society. *they were considered to be a moral theat to society, and could be persecuted. | * Art outside of church was not common. *Many women were not able to read,or right.This being due to them being taught seperate. *It is possible that some of the work thought to be written by a man may have been written by a woman.

14: WOMEN AT WAR

15: * Women surprisingly carries a great advantage in battle. *They were feared because they lost all maternal instincts. This making them valued warriors. | *Being a warrior gave woman the power to defend their homes, land, and even their families. * They even from time to time went to battle with men.

16: WOMEN OF THE CHURCH

17: * One alternative for a woman who chose not to marry was to become a nun. *Becoming a nun gave them some measure of authority, and overcoming the down falls of marriage. *If a woman could not afford to become a nun they would become a lay sister.Performing jobs such as cooking, and cleaning in various places.
