1: One rifle during the Civil War was the Springfield Model 1861. This rifle was the most used weapon in the Civil War. It was known for its accuracy and reliability.
2: The Springfield fired a .58 caliber minie ball out of its forty inch barrel | The Springfield weighed about nine pounds. The effective distance of about 600 paces was very handy in battle. Most rifles used flintlocks but this one used percussion caps
3: The users of the Springfield had a great advantage over their enemy. Now able to fire twice as far as before.
4: The Springfield was used by few soldiers but was one of the most deadly rifles used during the Civil War.
5: At the beginning of the Civil War the Springfield was very scarce, but as | the war went on its accuracy and reliability was noticed and started to mass produce. Most of the other rifles were drooped because they couldn't keep up with the Springfield.
6: Every man who carried this weapon benefited from its power. But also the men without the Springfield had an enormous disadvantage.
7: Without the rifle,combat would have been much different. | They may have used the Indian approach and used bows. Without the rifles the Civil war would have been longer.
