BC: Columbia law school:Deturent efects and Capitol cost. philforhumanity.com White, Deborah. "pros and cons of the Death Penalty"/about.com/2011/may 10,2011
-Capital punishment- A pre-meditated planned taking of a human life by a government in response of a crime committed by the convicted person. | There are people who believe that capital punishment is the only way to punish the people who have murdered an innocent person on purpose. Then there are people who think that it is the ultimate denial of our human right to life. This is a constant battle between two fighting beliefs of what is right and what is wrong.
Reasons for the death penalty ----------> | -Detures possible future crimes from ever hapening again.- In 1975 prof. Isaac Ehrlich from Univercity of Buffalo published an article asserting that during the 1950's and 1960's each exicution ..."saved eight innocent lives" by deturing murder. | -safety within prisons- It is true that most murderers are violent people, so if we lock them up for life what is going to stop them from hurting or killing an inmate or a guard?
-quote from the Clark County, Indiana prosecuting attorney writes...- "there are some defendants who have earned the ultimate punishment our society has to offer by committing murder with aggravating circumstances present.I believe life is sacred. It cheapens the life of an innocent murder victim to say that society has no right to keep the murderer from ever killing again. In my view, society has not the right but the duty to act in self defense to protect the innocent.
Reasons not with the death penalty. ----------> | -Wrongly convicted- Some people exicuted wereproven too late to be wrongly convicted of a murder they did not commit. | -Fairness- The life of the criminal can not compensate for the crime committed. Basically, two wrongs don't make a right.
-Quoted from Amnesty International - "It violates the right to have a life. The ultimate cruel, inhumane and degrading punishment. There can be no justification for a cruel treatment."
