1: THE CELL THEORY | THE CELL THEORY HAS THREE PRINCIPLES: -Cells are the basic unit of life -Cells arise from pre-existing cells -All living organisms are made up of cells.
2: Cell Structures | Cytoplasm:they spread out nutrients and minerals Nucleus:Contains the DNA of a cell. Cell Wall: Provides structure to the cell Ribosome: Produce proteins Endoplasmic Reticulum: Rough ER transports proteins. Smooth transports lipids Golgi Apparatus: Makes and package materials to be transported out of the cells Mitochondria:makes ATP Lysosome: contains the cell's digestive system enzymes Vacuole: storage sites Placid: pigment producing oraganelle in cells
3: Prokaryotic v.s Eukaryotic Cells | Eukaryote have an actual nucleus which is surrounded by a cell membrane and is secluded from other cell structures. Prokaryotic is the exact opposite. it has no true nucleus, so all of its DNA is not separated from the cell but is placed in the nucleoid. Eukaryotes are in plants, animal, protists and fungi cells. it is usually larger than prokaryotic and more complex. prokaryotics on average are 10 times in diameter smaller than eukaryotes
4: Plant v.s Animal Cells | -animal cells do not have cell walls or chloroplast -plant cells do not have centriole -animals cells are eukaryote cells
5: All About: Cell Membrane and Homeostasis | The cell membrane is one of the cell's most important organelle because it surrounds all living cells and it controls what goes in and out of the cell. Homeostasis is the ability of an organism or cell to maintain equilibrium by adjusting its process.
6: Virchow was a German pathologist and anthropologist (and also a politician of liberal views) whose studies of pathogenic organisms led him to the discovery that cells are derived from other cells, which he summarized as omnis cellula e cellula (‘every cell from a cell’). | ( | Schleiden wrote the book, Contributions to Phytogenesis , in which he stated that the different parts of the plant organism are composed of cells. Also, he recognized the importance of the cell nucleus.
7: Theodor Schwann discovered that the gastric juice pepsin, was a digestive enzyme for protein. It was the first enzyme that could be presented from an animal tissue | Robert C. Hooke's main discovery was that cells were made up of a wall. He discovered this after observing pieces of corks. The term cells stuck and Hooke gained credit for discovering the building blocks of all life
