S: Claire's First Year

BC: To Claire Love, Mom

For a couple of years B.C. (before Claire), I dealt with kidney infections. Sometimes they were excrutiating and in April 2009 I found myself in the emergency room in the middle of the night. I had been before & they would run tests before the doctor spoke to me. One of the standard questions was, "Could you be pregnant?" & I would answer no. This time, the nurse pulled out a pregnancy test and said, "This says you are. We were shocked. Really shocked. Throughout the pregnancy I continued to have a lot of kidney trouble. The up side was that we had lots of sonograms and got to see her regularly. I had 12 hospital admissions during that time and was eventually diagnosed with a large kidney stone. Normally, surgery would take care of it, but there was such risk because of the baby. I had multiple procedures to attempt a temporary fix until surgery could be performed. These were done with no anesthesia and were painful. Once I hit my 3rd trimester, the surgeon was more comfortable performing surgery. The first was a failure, but I went in a week later and the stone was removed. Because of all of the surgery, they wanted to deliver her early to avoid any other surgeries. During my pregnancy, the hospital changed its regulations and I couldn't be induced more than a week early. We were nearing the end of December and the hospital was full, so we ended up having her a day late. The doctor said that even if I hadn't been induced, we probably would have had her that day. We were ALL ready. Even though we had a rough start, she has been the biggest blessing to our family. She brings so much joy to anyone she meets.! | Claire's Beginning

 Peek A Boo

As much as I tried to shy away from pink, it still took over. I loved this pattern. Mom took apart the comforter that come with it and made the bulletin board & lampshade. | The changing table is a dresser that mom refinished 25 years ago. I used it as a dresser growing up and it made the perfect addition to Claire's room.

 Delivery Day!

Me looking down at my pregnant belly. The last picture before she made her appearance. | The delivery was scheduled & we had to be there at 7:30 am, but it was a few hours before anything happened. We listened to music, napped a little and anxiously waited

Because it was flu season, children were not allowed in the hospital. But, we had many adult visitors! In fact, Len was sick and unable to visit.

Mimi and Mema were thrilled to finally have some pink!

We were ready to check out of the hospital when the nurse noticed some green spit up on Claire's shoulder. They took her right to the NICU for another day. At 9 pounds, she was a giant compared to the other babies.

Claire's first month was a little rough. She didn't eat very well, so we had to feed her with a small tube and syringe. She started sleeping in her crib at almost exactly a month old.

From the very first day, these two had a special bond. Drew is helpful, protective, and gentle with his new sister. | Baby Girl | Big Brothers

Ben was very helpful. Since he was our baby for so long, it was fun to see him become the big brother.

 Claire's Baptism

Claire was baptized by Fr. Ken Van Haverbeke at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Her godparents are Jeff & Michelle Pacha.

Crazy Hair! | Claire was born with lots of hair, so we spent way too much time making it into crazy styles.

Months | For no particular reason, Claire's nickname became Ladybug, so the outfit in the top was perfect. Drew could get her to smile so easily. Just like her brothers at this age, she loved to just snuggle in the chair with her dad. She would never sit still with me like that, but he had the touch. | 2

I had several friends who had babies at the same time I had Claire. Brennon was our neighbor and he was 2 months older. Jared (5 weeks older) and Evan (3 weeks younger) were our baseball friends.

3 | Months | At 3 months, Claire was 13 pounds, 3 ounces and 24.5 inches long. She could hold her head up really well. Even though she was nowhere near sitting up, we had a Bumbo seat that she loved to be in to get a different view.

At 4 momths, Claire was starting to giggle. She discovered her voice and let us know it! She weighed 14 pounds, 4 ounces. She also started rolling over from back to front. | 4 | Months

We were all dressed up for Drew's 1st Communion so we took the opportunity to snap a few pictures.

Baseball Season | Claire quickly became accustomed to our busy schedule during baseball season

She would fall asleep pretty much anywhere when she was tired....usually snuggled up with Mema or Beepa.

Claire had so much fun being outside. It was a very hot summer, but she was a trooper. She also did so well when we traveled out of town.

Our little girl's personality really started to shine through. She came to the office sometimes with me and would play toys on the floor while I worked. | 5 | Months

6 | Months | By this time Claire was sitting up very well. She loved getting to sit without a carseat in a shopping cart.

7 | Months | Claire got her first 2 teeth within 4 days. She was a couple weeks shy of being 7 months. She was sleeping from about 9pm to 7am only getting up twice for a bottle.

8 | Months | Just before she turned 8 months, Claire starting crawling well and then promptly started pulling up on furniture to try walking.

Months | 9 | She started doing patty cake and mimicking coughing and raspberries. She could walk around a table once she got herself pulled up, but couldn't figure out how to get back down.

10 | Months | At 10 moths, Claire was almost 20 pounds. Her first words were Uh-oh"and "Bubble, although we suspect she was saying Beepa about a month before. She gave up baby food about this time, because she preferred to feed herself.

Tres Diablos | Claire's first Halloween was fun. She loved being included in the annual pumpkin carving with Beepa. A friend gave us the super cute devil costume for her and the boys followed right along with the theme.

By 11 months, Claire was beginning to understand many words. She had 8 teeth and knew how to have fun. She also slept through the night for the first time! | 11 | Months

Claire, Drew, Ben Eli, Ariauna, Kamran | She is sleeping on a basketball court during a game!

 C

Claire was up all night Christmas Eve throwing up, so she just wanted to snuggle in the morning.

I made Claire's cake into a ladybug to go along with her nickname. She started by picking all of the M&M's off of the top. Then, she started picking at the icing. Eventually, we broke it in half, so she could see the cake and she grabbed some bites. She went straight to the bathtub after enjoying her feast.

Cheree took such beautiful pictures of Claire from the time she was born. Sometimes I would get surprise emails at work with her newest creation.
