2: Landowners | They claimed land formerly. The land was available to small farmers, thus forcing some to leave. Relied on indentured servants or enslaved African Americans. They were educated from some cases. Landowners had rich social culture and lived mostly in the South.

3: Farmers | Farmers worked the land according to the region. Farmers relied on family members for labor. They planted mainly tobacco and other plants.

4: Artisans | Artisans worked as craftsmen in towns and on plantation. They mostly lived in small villages and towns where they worked and lived.They were blacksmiths, shoemakers, and carpenters. They lived in the South and the Mid- Atlantic region.

5: Women | Worked as caretakers, house- workers, and homemakers. Women were not allowed to vote. They had few opportunities for getting an education. Women had lived in most colonies in the region.

6: Enslaved African Americans | Enslaved African Americans were captured in their Native America and sold to slave traders; then were shipped to the colonies where they were sold into slavery. They were owned as property for life without any right. Most of them were born into slavery. They worked on farms and planted crops for their owner.

7: Free African Americans | Were able to own land . They had economic freedom and could work for pay and decide how to spend their money . Free African Americans were also not allowed to vote. They lived mostly in the Mid Atlantic region and the South.

8: Indentured Servants | Indentured servants were men and women who did not have money for passage to colonies and who agreed to work without pay for person who paid for their passage. They were free after their contract. Indentured servants mainly lived in the South.
