2: Yankees sign a new hot young rookie out of Michigan By Tanner Williams Derek Jeter is the new shortstop for the New York Yankees. He got drafted by the Yankees in the first round and the 6th pick. In 1992 he signed his first contract. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Derek Jeter was named high school player of the year 19991. Then the Yankees became more interested in drafting Jeter. He was drafted in the first round and the 6th overall pick. His first contract was worth $800,000. When he first signed with the Yankees he was sent to the minor leagues. He had the thought of quitting the team, cause he had no friends on the team. He sucked it up and kept playing and within a year he was promoted to the MLB. Later on in his career he reached one of the greatest accomplishments of his career he reached 3,000 hits. He joined 27 other players not including his self.
4: One of the sports that Derek Jeter was good at when he was a kid other than baseball was basketball. He wasn’t the fastest guy on the quart, but he could shoot like Ray Allen. His mom always encouraged to be the best of his ability. The coach told his mom that Derek should quit because he wasn’t as fast as the rest of the players. His mom got mad at what the coach said, and that made her want Derek to play even more. | http://goo.gl/yyNFa http://goo.gl/K3nEa
5: What would be in Derek Jeter’s wallet! Picture of Family: He would have a picture of family because when he was just starting out as a rookie in baseball, he would call his parents every night and talk to them for hours. One time his phone bill at a hotel was $200. Picture of his sister Sharlee: He would have a picture of Sharlee because Sharlee his practically his whole life. He used to do everything with Sharlee. They used to play baseball and softball together. Picture of Alex Rodriguez: When he was a rookie Jeter would always talk to A-rod about topics. One time they had a very descriptive talk about life and its mysteries. A-Rod, Nomar Garciaparra, and Derek Jeter created a group called the future of baseball cause they were all shortstops and A-rod was 25, Jeter was 26, and Nomar was 27. Picture of Nomar Garciaparra: He would be in his wallet since Jeter is a Yankee and Nomar is a Red Sox they would be constant rivals but off the field they were good friends. Picture of a Yankee Jersey: He would have that because he is a Yankee player and when he was a kid he would always watch the Yankees and watch his favorite Yankee Dave Winfield play. Picture of the Turn 2 Foundation: He would have it because that was his own foundation and that was one of his goals in his life was to raise money and start his own foundation.
6: September 4th, 2011 Dear Father and Mother, It is your son Derek. I have been going through a hard time lately. Ever since I have left you not so long ago I have been having a tough time. After I signed my contract for 1 year and 800,000 dollars a lot of the players seem to be getting jealous. After the first double header game I went 0-7 and in the locker room I heard two players say that I shouldn’t even be in the minors I sucked so badly. When I heard that I felt like crying. Then the next game I went 3-4 and hit one homerun. Then I felt like I was on top of the world. My phone bill has been over $200 for my hotel. Things have been going well though after the Yankees promoted me to the majors. You know Alfonso Soriano, Ed Yarnall, and D’Angelo Jimenez will I have decided to take those players under my wing. I am doing this because when they were rookies I remembered when I was a rookie and how lonely I felt. I sometimes take them out to dinner just to get them comfortable with the new surroundings. Thank you mom and dad for all that you have done, now I have to go to baseball practice. Sincerely, Derek Jeter
