2: Eldridge Cleaver was Born on August 31,1935 in Wabbeseka, Arkansas. Eldridge had a very trouble childhood, getting in trouble with the law at a young age.He was sent to reform school as a teenager for thief and selling marijuana.

5: Cleaver's bad rep continued when he was sentenced to 30 months in prison at Soledad prison for possession of marijuana with the intent to sell. While in prison Cleaver became very interested in politics and the works of Karl Marx, Lenin, and Thomas paine. After being released, Cleaver found himself in trouble again on charges of attempted murder. While serving his time in San Quieten prison Cleaver became very interested in the black civil rights movement and the works of Malcolm X, sparking his interest in becoming a civil activist.

7: Soon after is release from San Quieten, Cleaver joined the Black panther party, and very quickly became a very pivotal member of the party as the out spoken Minister of Information. From this position in the party he called for an armed insurrection and the establishment of a black socialist government. This cemented him as a committed revolutionary.

8: All of this new found hype surrounding Eldridge led to the publishing of his essays that he wrote in prison in the form of the book "Soul on Ice." The same year Cleaver was wounded in a Panther shootout with Oakland police which led to the controversial death of his good friend and Panther leader Bobby Hutton.

10: In 1968 Eldridge Cleaver was arrested and charged with attempted murder, once released on bail CLeaver fled to Mexico and later moved to Algeria. After being expelled from the black panthers because of a falling out with Huey Newton, Cleaver returned to the U.S to be tried for assault in the Oakland shout-out. Cleaver got off easy with probation and community service because of his "new found Christianity." After his trial Cleaver embarked on a political career and advocating his religious views while also becoming a strong follower of the republican party. Eldridge cleaver later died in 1998 from drug related illnesses.

11: Eldridge Cleaver had a lengthy criminal record but he'll be remember more for his work as a Black Panther activist turned Republican. Even more for his motivational speaking which reminded many of the great Malcolm X, which led him to play a very critical role in the lives of many Black Americans seeking equality in the 60s and 70s.
