S: EUROPE 2010

FC: EUROPE | 2010 | IRELAND SCOTLAND ENGLAND SWITZERLAND ITALY VATICAN CITY SLOVENIA GERMANY CZECH REPUBLIC NETHERLANDS

After finding out the amazing news that Mackenzie had gotten into medical school, there was only one way to celebrate... start chipping away at that line of credit ASAP!! And what better way to do that than taking off to Europe for an entire month! In the following pages are the highlights of an unforgettable trip.

 DUBLIN | Ireland | Day 1-3 | a | Cheers! (I'll drink to that!) | Swedish Photobomb!

washing machines here! | Howth: | A beautiful fishing village

Cliffs of Moher | our sweet ride | Ignored this sign... ... to get this picture

Edinburgh, Scotland: Day 3-5 Edinburgh Castle (aka bad ass castle on the hill)

Mackenzie enjoying some authentic Scottish haggis. Kerry's favorite authentic Scottish treat came in the form of deep-fried Mars bars :)

England (Day 5-7) The land of double decker buses, awesome phone booths, never-ending Harry Potter references and constant reminders to "mind the gap!"

Village of Laycock Founded in the early 13th century, with a population of less than 200 people, this quaint little village's claim to fame is being home of Harry Potter's childhood house (like, from the movies...I know he's a fictional character). | Roman Baths Located in the City of Bath, these Baths once served as a site for public bathing. Given the color of the water, we decided to shower at the hostel. | Roman Baths Located in the City of Bath, these Baths once served as a site for public bathing. Given the color of the water, we decided to shower at the hostel. | Stonehenge Simply epic. And shrouded in mystery. So actually, super epic!

Interlaken was easily (easily!) one of the most beautiful places we have ever visited. So much so that we extended our stay (several times). Our hostel (above) was beautiful, and more importantly, had an never-ending supply of Nutella.. Between the gorgeous landscapes, crazy adventure sports, and wonderful people, our Eurotrip very nearly ended here., | Interlaken, Switzerland | Day 7-11

It was called Harder Kulm for a reason... A gorgeous mountain hike lead to Mackenzie destroying his IT band and Kerry getting hemorrhagic blisters. Lessons learned: 1) Advil in Interlaken is wicked expensive and 2) the Swiss Alps are not a good way to break in new sandals.

 oh so sexy Mr. Pink

Canyoning in glacial waters in the Alps

Though it was one of our more expensive adventures in Europe, hang gliding with Bernie and Ed, a couple of crazy Aussies living in Interlaken, was absolutely worth it!

 no turning back now

Seemed like a reasonable waiver to sign in a foreign country...(obviously we didn't tell our mums until after we survived...)

Cinque Terre: The Hike (11 km in 35 degrees required a lot of gelato) | our love lock | Italy: Day11-15

good eats | Things we did in Rome: EAT (gelato) EAT (pasta) Coloseum EAT (pizza) EAT (more gelato)

The ONLY museum that we stepped foot in the whole trip (because we're cultured like that) was the Vatican museum. Poor Mackenzie was forced to put up with constant "Is THIS the Sistine Chapel?" Word to the wise, it comes at the END of a very long tour, but the whole ceiling is painted. And then you don't even get to take a picture of the damn thing, so no, that is NOT a picture of the Sistine Chapel. | Part of the Pope's personal entourage. Wouldn't want any trashy women (aka women with bare shoulders) to offend his Holiness.

Vatican City | Kerry is so happy because she didn't burst into flames in the holiest city on the planet. | Mackenzie was not interested in confessing anything, despite many urgings and guilt trips.

 Slovenia Day 15-17

Ljubljana was an impulsive add-on to our trip. After, quite literally, the train ride from hell, from Italy to Slovenia, we stayed in a jail-turned-hostel. Seriously.

Cheers in Hofbrauhaus! Turns out lemonade makes beer tolerable! | The Vomitorium Kerry's new Bavarian boyfriend

Neuschwanstein Castle was built by the crazy Ludwig II of Bavaria and served as the inspiration for the Disney castle! | Beautiful Bavaria! Day 17-21 (Germany Part I) | Spatzle, aka heaven on earth.

One of the more somber stops on our trip, the Dachau Concentration Camp was a very overwhelming experience. Operating from 1933-1938, Dachau was the Nazis' first concentration camp. "Brausebad" or "showers" marked the entrance to huge gas chambers.

Dachau Concentration Camp | International Monument: Created by Nandor Glid, this sculpture commemorates those individuals, who in an act of desperation, jumped into the barb wire fences surrounding Dachau as an act of suicide. | Memorial commemorating those groups of individuals targeted by the Nazis. Prisoners wore these "camp badges" as a way of identification to their "group".

Czech Republic (Day 21-23) | Very Kafkaesque

Located in Kutná Hora, Sedlec Ossuary is a small church that contains the skeletons of over 50 000 people. It's not creepy though, because they've been arranged in an artistic fashion.

Berlin: Day 23-26 (Germany Part II) Berlin was a very unique mix of historical (Check Point Charlie, Holocaust Memorial), modern (note the gentlemen on the self-propelled bike-bar) delicious (Ritter Sport store), and sexy (Beate Uhse Erotik-Museum...so much more interesting than the Vatican museum!) elements.

Amsterdam, Denmark (Day 26-30) Probably our second favorite stop on our trip, Amsterdam was simply a gorgeous city. Adding to its charm were the abundant canals, cheery locals, omnipresent "pissoirs" (which are exactly what you assume they are for), and of course, the lovely ladies of the Red Light District.

With impeccable timing (sheer coincidence and no planning on our part), we arrived in Amsterdam in the midst of the World Cup. Watching soccer in a country that has a decent soccer team makes watching soccer much less painful . !!ORANJE!!! | While Dampkring wasn't the coffee shop we frequented the most, it's probably the most recognizable one as it was made famous by Ocean's 12.
