FC: This article is mainly saying how scientist have what seems to be the pictures of an asteroid collision. When scientist first received this picture, they thought it was a comet, because of the tail. After looking closer and doing further research they found out that it was really an asteroid collision! This is the first asteroid collision snapshot ever. They think that a huge rock ran into an ever bigger asteroid! They are guessing that the asteroid was going 11,200 mph. The reason scientist thought there was a tail is because when they collided, the asteroid left behind a trail of debris which looked like a comet tail in the picture. They think it has a bizzare X-shaped nucleolus.

Why is this important to me? It's important to me because it's really cool to read about how we have the first picture ever of an asteroid collision. This goes on to show that we can discover new things if we keep studying that subject (or whatever it is in that case) we might find something we didn't even think was there!!

Why is this important to society? I think this article is important to society because it shows that sometimes we might over look things and we should fully study the item or subject before moving on. Just like the scientist in this story over righted the picture of the asteroid collision as just a comet! It took them from January to now to figure out that that object was more then just a comet!

How does this article relate to our class? This article relates to our class because we talk a whole lot about experiments and how we should repeat the process to check it. Even though experimenting wasn't the case in this situation, it shows that we should check into our work and(or experiments) to make sure we don't miss anything important!

Vocabulary *Asteroid: a class of small solar system bodies that orbit the sun *Comet: an icy small solar system body *Asteroid collision: when an asteroid collides with another object in space *Comet- tail: the tail on the end of a comet *Nucleolus: the part of an item that controls everything, like a brain!
