FC: Food Scientist
1: A Food Scientist is someone who works in the food processiong industry. | They use their knowledge to improve methods of processing, canning, freezing, storing, packaging, and distributing food. | Also called Food Technologists.
3: "Little girls have a magic all their own." | Most work in the research and development dept. of food processing companies. | -Some teach in colleges or work for the government as food graders and inspectors. | -Some work in the sales and advertising of foods.
4: Other Things They DO: | -Study chemical changes that take place in stored or processed foods. | -Try to find new ways to process food so fewer nutrients are lost. | -Study effects of food additives. | -Also pay attention to flavor, appearance, and texture of processed foods.
6: Work Environment: | -The work environment varies. | -Some work in labs, food processing plants, and some teach in colleges.
8: Hours&Wages: | -Work 35-40 hours a week. | -Earnings vary depending on education and experiance. | -Salary: $49,610/yr | -Benefits: paid holidays and vacations, pension plans, and health inspections.

10: Education Needed: | -MUST have Bachelor's degree in food technology. | -For teaching positions and some research jobs, a Master's or Doctoral degree is needed.

16: Is this job held in high demand? | Job growth among agricultural and Food Scientists should be faster than the average for all occupations. | Oppertunities are expected to be good over the next decade, particularly in Food Science and Technology and in Agronomy.
