Dear Mom & Dad, | Thanks for including me on the trip of a life time.! To go to Europe was one of those things on my bucket list, and while I hope to go back, I can scratch that one off! I so enjoyed myself and I cannot thank you enough for your generosity! | Love Always, LeShayne
2011 | Munich | We got off to a rough start! It was freezing when we got there. Broken baggage, rental car issues, and then we got stuck in the mud. After a little bit of pushing we made it out. It all went uphill from there, literally and figuratively.
Home Home | away from | Away From
Sometimes you can mix business and pleasure.
 The smaller castle in Fussen.
Originally built in the 12th century, Hohenschwangau, was ruined in the 19th century, Rebuilt by King Maximilian in 1833, he and later his son, King Ludwig II, spent summers here.
Neuschwantstein was built for King Ludwig II, the much loved and last king of Bavaria. He never lived in the castle, dying at a young age prior to the completion of the castle. Only 17 of the 50 rooms were ever completed, each with painting and decor to represent various operas. The inside remains copyrighted and therefore guests can only take photographs of the outside. The inside was ornate with paintings, carvings, moldings, and many precious metals. And it had lots, and lots, of stairs.
Both Castles, Nueschwantstein and Hohenschwangau were beautiful. And both were high in the mountains. We walked to Hohenschwangau but the horse and carriage took us most of the way up to Nuschwanstein. We even had time before our tour to stop for a drink and some "window shopping"!
The State of Bavaria | The Republic of Austria
High atop many mountains were ski slopes, restaurants, and breath taking views.. | Pfronten was one of many cities that boasted these views from on top of the world! And they made a great potato pancake and goulash soup. | The winding road up the mountain was snowy and downright scary so we went the easier route: cable car! | From the top you could walk this sidewalk right out over the edge! A little scary to step out on but you could see the whole city.
 The Alps
 Nymphenburg Palace
Olympic Park & Tower Home of the 1972 Summer Games and candidate for 2018 Winter Games
The City: Munchen | Bavarian Parliament House | City Hall | Victory Arch
good eats | As all good tourists do we ate lunch at the Hofbraeuhaus, an infamous Munich brewery and beer garden complete with live Bavarian music.
To round out our trip we went to the site of Oktoberfest, where the Statue of Bavaria was erected in 1850. Fritz, our guide for the day, had been amazing but it was time to go home! Munich: Been there, done that!
