4: 1609 Voyage | In 1609 Henry was hired by the Dutch East India Company to find a East passage to Asia. He was told to sail through the Arctic Ocean, North of Russia, into the Pacific and to the Far East. On April 4, 1609 Henry and his crew departed Amsterdam and set sail on the Half Moon. He could not go farther east because the passage was blocked by ice. At that point entirely off the Dutch's directions he started going west trough North America. On August 4, 1609 they reached Cape Cod, from which Hudson sailed south to the entrance at Chesapeake Bay. Instead of entering the Chesapeake he sailed north and found Delaware Bay, On September 3, 1609 he reached a estuary which is now called the North River or the Mauritius, though he was not the first to discover this estuary. On September11, 1609 Henry and his crew sailed up the river that is known as the Hudson River. He went up it for ten days then he decided to turn back to England.

Excitement was high because the ship had finally found the Northwest passage. On June 25, 1610 Henry reached which is now the Hudson Strait. Following the southern coast of the strait on August 2, 1610 he discovered and entered the Hudson Bay. Hudson spent the next months exploring the Hudson Bay. Sadly he and his crew did not find a passage to Asia.
