1: HIP-HOP EVOLUTION FROM JAZZ
2: Jazz is how blacks expressed themselves before hip hop was created. Jazz created in the 1900s used ragtime and off beats to create a new form of music that helped African Americans to express their struggles in slavery. | Rap was the vocals over the broken beats in hip hop music. Afrikaa Bambataa in his article explained how DJ KoolHerc mixed and scratched Jazz beats to create a new form of music called Hip Hop. (True Meaning of Hip-Hop).
3: Rap is a part of Hip-Hop and was born in Brooklyn when DJ Kool Herc and his friend Coke La Rock would give shout outs over beats that DJ Kool Herc would play, creating a vocal aspect to Hip Hop.
4: USES OF HIP HOP IN URBAN COMMUNITIES
5: Hip Hop allowed for youth in urban areas to express their ideas freely as shown by a study done by Dr. Carter G. Woodson. Areas that were once gang territories turned into party spots and a place for youth to have fun. | People living in urban and ghetto communities didn't have any way of expressing their struggles. 8: Graffiti and breakdancing show the art aspect of Hip Hop. Hip Hop is art and art is one of the four hallmarks of culture. | GRAFFITI
9: Hip Hop influences fashion and everyday items brought by the masses. Companies such as Tommy Hilfiger have based their clothing lines on hip hop culture. Also TV shows such as Yo! Have made episodes depicting hip hop culture and broadcasted it to the masses.
10: Islam’s introduction into Hip Hop with such artists and Mos Def and Afrikaa Bambataa have changed Hip-Hop. Since the emergence of hip-hop in the South Bronx in the early 1980s, Islamic themes and Arabic terms increasingly thread its colorful fabric.

12: Old school hip hop was simplified rapping styles over records that were re-spun over and over. Old school hip hop was defined in the 70s.The image, styles and sounds of the old school were exemplified by figures like Afrika Bambaataa, The Sugarhill Gang, Spoonie Gee, Treacherous Three, Funky Four Plus One, Kurtis Blow, Fab Five Freddy, Busy Bee Starski, Lovebug Starski, Doug E. Fresh, The Fat Boys, The Cold Crush Brothers and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, and it is characterized by the simpler rapping techniques of the time and the general focus on party related subject matter.

16: Caribbean influence in hip hop comes from artists such as Busta Rhymes and DJ Kool Herc. The beats tend to be fast pace and upbeat with a Caribbean music influence. | CARRIBEAN INFLUENCE IN HIP HOP
17: Spanish hip hop and hip hop influence is becoming increasingly popular. Artists such as Pitbull and Daddy Yankee have given another language to rap music. Other rap artists such as Nikki Minaj and Lil Kim are starting to even use Spanish within their raps.
18: In Hip Hop there is a huge emergence on Asian B-Boys as seen in Missy Elliots “Work It” music video and in the Jaberwockees dance crew.
