2: Introduction Hello my name is Kenya and I live in the Kheri tribe in Africa. I have a husband named Maori but no children. Life in Africa is so horrible at the moment, I am unemployed and my husband only works enough to support himself. There is little food in our tribe and people are starving to death. The news around now is that there is a better life in a place they call "America". They say that a lot of people can get jobs and there is plenty of food to go around. That sound amazing compared to my life as I know it. There is a particular place called San Francisco that people say that it is the best place to live. I have recently told my husband and he is all aboard for this long journey that is ahead of us.

6: Day 1 All of last night me and my husband had to packed the little things that we do have, and we are anxious to go!!! During our journey we have to aboard a ship with millions of African Americans luckily we got on here fast and was one of the first people to sit down, but others wasn't so lucky. They had to sit in the floor and others in the little room at the bottom of the ship. The boat ride took hours but finally we've arrived!! Everything in the new world looked so different and the people looked so happy, I just knew that we were going to enjoy this place.
8: We had arrived on an island called Angels island and had to go through a long process if making sure we didn't have diseases or anything. First they gave our bodies an exam to make sure we were not sick. I wondered what would happen to the people that were sick, I soon found out. A couple friends form the tribe got pushed back to the side and soon boarded the same ship that brought us here. The second thing they did was looked at our passport, which was all beat up and made me nervous that they were not going to take it, but to my surprised they did. | Angel iIland

14: Day 2: we have moved into our new house and it is filthy but it's bigger than our hut back home. We have to share the building with another family so i guess it's like being in a tribe again
17: Day 3: We are very very happy in our new home and are so blessed with these new opportunities. Me and my husband have jobs now, we are making over $10 a day.that is just enough money to support me and my husband.
