"Better safe then Sorry." - Samuel Lover (Songwriter and Novelist)
Journal Entry 2 | Mark reminds me to use my Glucotron to test my blood sugar. "Glucotron>" He said. I stared at him puzzled. "Oh yeah, I'd kind of forgotten about that." (Page 51) If he didn't remind me about that, I would have been in for some serious problems.
I was talking about how my Dad and Mark's Dad are brothers. I was also saying how I wish I had a brother, but Mark told me that they are overrated. I'm not quite so sure what he meant by that, I am not so sure was he was intending to achieve with that, but I think he was just trying to cheer me up. | Journal Entry 3
"Sometimes I wish i had a brother." " I have two, they are overrated." (Page 63.)
Mark and I were on the bank of the lake fishing for some supper, When suddenly we both heard a growl of a bear behind us. I wasn't so sure what to do, but Mark said to make no sudden movements. Then Mark decided that we should throw the bear our fish so that it would distract him, which was successful. | Journal Entry 4
"What do we do now? That bear is gonna kill us!" "Just don't make any sudden movements and let me think... Well Maybe we could throw our fish to him to create a distraction." (Page 78)
I woke Mark up because it sounded like something in the woods was trying to steal our food pack that we hung on a tree. At first he didn't care because it seemed as if he were too tired, but then he and I both realized something. It was a bear, and if it got that food pack, I would lose my Diabetes Kit, or I'd be in for some real trouble. After I start throwing rocks at the bear, Mark joins in to help me. | Journal Entry 5
"You idiot, I've got to have food or I'm in for some real deep trouble." "Oh, crap." (Page 108)
After the bear attack, Mark let me use the Glucotron on him to test if he was normal. I know he is scared of those things, so i tried to make it sound as nice as possible. After struggling for a couple of minutes, he finally agreed to let me test it. "Come on, if you test normal, the tester will be okay." "It's called a Glucotron, but whatever." (Page 111) | Journal Entry 6
"The only things you live to regret are the risks you didn't take." - Zachary Scott (Actor)
Later after we've settled after that bear attack, it was time to find a spot to stay at for the night. We found a spot and sat down for some food. I pulled out some of these bars that are suppost to be healthy, so i offered Mark one. It was nice because he declined both times when I offered him food. It was cool to know he was taking my Diabetes seriously. | Journal Entry 7
"We've only got two, and I've really ought to save the other one for emergencies." "Don't worry about it, I'm okay.
Apparently, after a miscalculation of direction, Mark and I went spiraling out of control. Not literally of course, but it was definitely a fun ride. At least, at the end it was. During this hazard, Mark just told me to keep paddling. Although it seemed as if he found a way through the rapids. " Keep paddling, I think I see a way through." (Page 132) | Journal Entry 8
"Follow your instincts. That's where true wisdom manifests itself. " - Oprah Winfrey
Of course, we got lost again and ran into more rapids on Hog Snout Lake. The rapids were horrible, and in this situation, we lost our canoe. It was a good canoe, too. It was difficult for me because at this time most of my energy was gone. Mark had a plan that would've worked well and seemed to do the trick, until the wind kicked in. | Journal Entry 9
 "It's finished." "Completely." (Page 147)
At this time, I was out cold. Mark told me he was going crazy, Keeping the promise that we will make it out alive. He also told me how he had so much doubt, and wasn't sure if he was going to make it. He also said he went to go get help, and successfully made it out of Cant Hook. | Journal Entry 10
"Just stay here, I'm coming right back. We'll get out of here soon." (Page 176)
