SETTING | When my parents learned that they were going to have me, they decided to look for houses and move out of their apartment. I moved in the new house as soon as I was allowed out of the hospital. This old Dutch Colonial on North 29th Street is my home, and it has been since I remember. | --Setting is a time or a place where the action of a story happens

FORESHADOWING | My mom always says that she knew that I was going to learn fast and do well in school on my first birthday. All my family was present; my cousins playing

with me, trying to get me to talk. Then, during the birthday song, my mom asked me how old I was turning. I held up my finger, saying, "One!" Everyone was so surprised at how fast I caught on. | --Foreshadowing are clues that suggest coming events or characteristics.

Symbolism is anything that stands for or represents something else. | was born because the cherry trees were in bloom the day I was born. Every year, on my birthday, the tree's branches erupt in pinkish-white blossoms. Just seeing the tree growing up with me, getting taller and more mature, really represents my birthday and growing up. | S Y M B O L I S M | S Y M B O L I S M | Symbolism in my life has been the presence of a cherry tree in our backyard. My parents planted the tree a few months after I

I R O N Y | My life has been as ironic as the next person's. One example of irony in my life is what happened when I was one, the first time I was babysat. My parents (especially my mom) were undecided if I was ready to be left alone with someone other than my family. It turns out that I fell and scraped myself all up as soon as my parents drove away. Even though my mom was unable to comfort me and take care of my cuts, she became less paranoid about parenting and learned that she didn't always have to be there. | Examples of irony are surprising, amusing, or interesting contradictions.

Round Character | One of the people I've known for my entire life is Evelyn. Her grandma lived next door to our house for almost eleven years, until she moved into an apartment. Evelyn would go to her grandma's so her grandma could babysit her. She was nine months old when I met her, I was six months old. Both of us don't remember the first time we met, but her | grandma and my parents do. The adults tried to put me into Evelyn's exersaucer. Evelyn cried, and then I followed. We were inseparable after that. Many of the Drda Family Home Videos include Evelyn: outgoing, curly-haired, and carefree. But we had our share of fights. She was an only child and didn't have the experience of sharing, which I found completely annoying. One fight between us was caught on tape. We were about four, and were going to have a tea party, the kiddie table all set up nicely in the sunroom. After digging into the overflowing dress-up box and pulling | A round character is a character with both good and bad characteristics.

party dresses over our clothes, I grabbed those sparkle-y dress-up high heels that we both loved. Evelyn jealously yanked them out of my hands. My mom ended the scuffle with an idea that we each wear one shoe. The fight ended with us making up and singing the songs from the movie the Little Mermaid. She's so much like me; it was hard to stay mad at her. Evelyn also was a strict rule-follower. Every time in the car, she would always yell at my mom to "buckle up!" It got quite annoying after many times, but that's Evelyn. Everyone has good and bad qualities; Evelyn is no exception, but has just about the best combination.

My life's theme is that even though life brings you pain and pride, you still have to live it. I love life, but I have had my share of disappointments, like when my grandfather and good friend died within two months, or when I lost contests I thought I won. Life is good, and I love it! | Theme is a central message, concern, or insight into life. | Theme
