S: Today I Marry My Best Friend

FC: The Powells

Roy & Linda 4/28/2011 | Chapel At The Park Gatlinburg, Tennessee

 Leroy Powell 4/1/1958

Linda Marie Bratcher 4/5/1965 | My cousin Belinda holding me

We met in 1985 at Mr Gatti's Restaurant in Leitchfield Kentucky. | We became friends instantly...were friends for a few years before going on our first date.

Our home at 103 Crossridge Drive in Leitchfield Kentucky

Roy proposed in March 2010. We both knew we would marry someday and I was so excited that we were finally going to do it! | I told Roy I always thought it would be funny to get married and not tell anyone and just wait to see who noticed the ring on my finger first... | We also thought it would be funny to get married and not say anything to anyone...we would put our wedding picture in the living room with a $50 bill taped to the back...whoever notices it first gets the $50! | Wedding Plans and Thoughts... | I started planning things the night he proposed.. | We will marry in a Chapel in Gatlinburg Tennessee...just the two of us. We are private people and a private ceremony is just the thing for us! How intimate it will be and so very special... We will tell people we are going on vacation, as we have before...We will get the license on a Monday and marry on Thursday. Roy can wear a suit with either a blue shirt or white shirt and blue tie. I'll have a cake baked and decorated but I'll provide the topper as I know exactly what I want...a groom trying to get away! Since it has been so long that we have been together (26ish years), that topper is most fitting. | I don't want lavish wedding ring set, it's just not me. I find a simple band is the nicest for my taste.

Shopping for the dress... | About the dress...the practical side of me would not pay much for my dress so I ordered a beaded blouse and skirt for around $100 but did not like them at all! So I sent them back...went to David's bridal and found a bride's maids dress on sale for little over $200 and decided to get it. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to wear white so I kept an eye on ebay telling myself that if I found a cheap one, I'd get it. So I found a cream colored dress with beautiful embroidery embellishments...the seller mis-represented the dress and it did not fit. What a let down! But fortunately, it was not too much money that I lost $50...then another one showed up in white on ebay...this one had beading on the chest and looked simple but pretty. It was $50. So in a last ditch effort to wear white I bought the dress and anxiously awaited the arrival. When I took it out of the package I was blown away at the beading and the detail...it was so nice. Originally it would have had a scarf around the waist but did not come with one so my mom sewed on some trim and I added pearls to the trim to finish it off. I loved this dress!!! So I went thru a few but still paid less than I would have for a new gown similar to the one I wore. | ...so what happened to these dresses? I called some consignment stores and most would not take formal wear but the two that would stated that they would keep 60% of the sale price. I decided it would be so much fun if I could find someone else getting married who would appreciate the dress and just give it to them as a gift...wish me luck!

My pretty bouquet is done! | My cake topper speaks for itself...it's been a long time coming! | I loved the stemmed glasses that we already had so I added some floral from the bouquet and charms with our initials. | I'm going to use the tall blue vase as a candle holder for decoration at the cake display. | I always wanted to get married in the Smoky's! | As it turned out I didn't carry this bouquet; the location provided a bouquet for me to carry and a boutonniere for Roy's suit. They also provided a six inch cake, 20 5X7 photos mounted in an album, 2 8X10, a personalized "Just Married" sign for the car window, a unity candle, a garter, and the ceremony would be performed by an ordained minister.

Married in White, you have chosen right Married in Grey, you will go far away, Married in Black, you will wish yourself back, Married in Red, you will wish yourself dead, Married in Green, ashamed to be seen, Married in Blue, you will always be true, Married in Pearl, you will live in a whirl, Married in Yellow, ashamed of your fellow, Married in Brown, you will live in the town, Married in Pink, your spirit will sink. | My Mamaw Johnson quoted an old poem about wedding dress superstitions one day while I was visiting her...(she told me her dress was white with blue and yellow flowers on it, but mostly blue) | April 1st Happy Birthday Roy! April 5th Happy Birthday Linda April 24th Happy Easter and We leave for the Smoky's April 25th We pick up the license April 28th We get married! | This was the card we used to view and order our pictures from Chapel At The Park | License | Travel Day | Cherokee | Shopping Tornadoes all around us | Wedding | Cades Cove | Travel Day

The Honeymoon in a cabin called Beary Cozy! | This cabin was located on a street practically across the road from the chapel...it was a happy accident! | Beary Cozy was a 2 bedroom cabin with 2.5 baths, laundry room, great room which was the kitchen/living room combo...there was also a screened in back porch which we dined at one day, but mostly I used it for coffee and bible study. Outside the porch there was a hot tub, charcoal grill, and a flat back yard (unusual in the smokys, haha). Each bedroom had it's own private whirlpool tub inside just off the private bathroom. We always rent from the Auntie Belham Company

Having some fun in the Smokys before the big day...

Spring flowers and berries everywhere! | The old mill is so pretty | The trees are huge and beautiful! | ...and the boulders too

This is one of my favorite places to visit

 Cades Cove

Love looking at the wild life! | BEAR! | It always make my trip just perfect to see a bear!

He said "3 more days..." She said "How romantic that you are counting down the days!"

 R | L

 A Smoky Mountain

 Wedding

We thought this was kind of funny, when we picked up our license the clerk told us they had issued 117 just in that weekend alone

Roy & I with Bro. Gary Winger, the pastor who performed the ceremony | We were married in the gazebo outside the chapel

He said "Whew, This year flew by!" She said "How romantic you have been looking so forward to it that it seems to have passed so quickly!" | He said "I think I feel a tear" She said "How romantic that you are overcome with emotion!"

He said "I'm shaking..." She said "How romantic you are trembling with excitement!" | Love

He said "I must be having a nightmare and can't wake up" She said "Oh how romantic you have been dreaming about this day!

We used our Olive Garden gift cards from Roy's brothers and sisters to eat out after the wedding...our waitress was super nice and gave us this little note card before we left! | Roy does not like cake so I ate the whole thing...of course it was only a 6 inch heart shaped cake that was about an inch thick and I dumped the icing in the trash! It's still funny to say "I ate the entire wedding cake in 2 days!"

He said "I hope I don't forget what to say, uh...uh...uh" She said "How romantic that can't find the words to express your love..."
