Mother's Kitchen By: Mateo Correa Oh Mother how I miss your kitchen How I miss the scent of cooking chicken How I miss the clicking of the oven timer How I miss the taste of your fresh pancakes Oh Mother how I miss your kitchen The dishes we washed together The cakes we baked together The times we shared together Oh how I miss those times Remember when we made green eggs and ham? Remember when aunt walked in and we barraged her with flour? Remember when we found a dead roach fried in a pan? (Yuck, I do) | 2

But now I’m older No longer at home, Under your protection No longer in the kitchen, Helping you Oh Mother how I miss your kitchen How I miss the smile on your face How I miss the sound of your laughter How I miss the warmth of your voice Oh Mother how I miss your kitchen The dough we rolled together The crazy mixtures we tasted together The talks we had together Oh how I miss those times Remember when the potatoes exploded in the oven? Remember when sister dropped our perfect brownies? Remember when I caused a grease fire? | 3

But now I’m older No longer at home, Under your protection No longer in the kitchen, Helping you Oh how I wish time could reverse. | 4

language arts stinks by Mateo Correa language arts oh how I loathe thee your dumb rules make no sense to me verbs adjectives who cares words arent worthy affairs they will never make me happy short stories make me snooze all day at my pink brain they tear away i would rip them all up but id be too close up and then they might cast me away essays are the biggest mistake invented by someone awake who would write so much words unless they are brown turds they should be banished for God’s sake | 6

vocab the mother of evil destroys like the bad boll weevil it makes our pink brains hurt it mixes them up like dirt causing a neuro-upheaval. poetry is a bag of tricks its scarier than the river styx rhyme here, simile there just make sure to beware the worst poem of all: limericks | 7

Set Fire to The Rain By: Adele I let it fall, my heart, And as it fell you rose to claim it It was dark and I was over Until you kissed my lips and you saved me My hands, they're strong But my knees were far too weak, To stand in your arms Without falling to your feet But there's a side to you That I never knew, never knew. All the things you'd say They were never true, never true, And the games you play You would always win, always win. But I set fire to the rain, Watched it pour as I touched your face, Let it burn while I cried 'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name! | 8

When I lay with you I could stay there Close my eyes Feel you here forever You and me together Nothing is better 'Cause there's a side to you That I never knew, never knew, All the things you'd say, They were never true, never true, And the games you'd play You would always win, always win. But I set fire to the rain, Watched it pour as I touched your face, Let it burn while I cried 'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name! I set fire to the rain And I threw us into the flames When it fell, something died 'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time! | 9

Sometimes I wake up by the door, That heart you caught must be waiting for you Even now when we're already over I can't help myself from looking for you. I set fire to the rain, Watched it pour as I touched your face, Let it burn while I cried 'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name! I set fire to the rain, And I threw us into the flames When it fell, something died 'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time, ohhhh! Oh noooo Let it burn, oh Let it burn Let it burn | 11
