1: This portrait is Sir Walter Raleigh. He was born in 1554 Devon, England. He died in 1618 by an execution, which the picture on the right is. He was also a poet and a historian. | The picture above is the death of Sir Walter Raleigh because he attacked a Spanish outpost while he was searching for El Dorado. The Spanish got mad and told the English to take care of Sir Walter.
2: Sir Walter wanted to cross the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and the west Indies and then land near North Carolina. Whatever he found like gold, spices and land, he had to give it to the Queen because the Queen paid for the trip. Sir Walter was ready for his first adventure. | The picture on the left is Sir Walter spreading his cloak for the Queen.
3: Sponsor, Queen Elizabeth, picture below, Queen Elizabeth | Queen Elizabeth I sponsored the exploration for Sir Walter and if he didn't bring back anything to her, there would have been severe consequences, because she paid everything on the exploration.
4: Sir Walter expedition took place in 1584. He wanted to explore the world out there. In his voyage, he went to North Carolina. North Carolina today has a city called Sir Walter in his honor. In 1595 he traveled to Venezuela and Guyana searching for El Dorado. | Sir Walter Raleigh's expedition.
5: Queen Elizabeth died and Sir Walter was put in jail because of treason against King James. Later on he was released. In 1616 Sir Walter was given a second chance to explore South America again, to search for the lost city of gold, El Dorado. He didn't find it. Instead he attacked a Spanish outpost. He got executed because of this.
