1: Sensory-Motor Stage: First Two Years

5: That's Me! | using the newfound mental representation to his full advantage, Piaget is nearly done with the sensory-motor stage. they grow up so fast!

7: Preoperational Stage: 2-7 years

8: this little Piaget loves to pretend that his tricycle is actually a fire-breathing dragon

18: 1st place at the science fair! | Piaget has transformed into a young adult that can think for himself and he now has a mind of his own.

19: Abstract Thought

20: Many have drawn criticism from Piaget's book of cognitive development theory arguing that true cognitive advancements in children are more of a gradual, but random process, rather than Piaget's suggested sequential stages that occur at specific ages. Piaget's theory of the incapable mind of a newborn is also refuted by those that refer to several infants being able to carry out tasks well-before the age that Piaget says is the norm. Vygotsky in particular saw flaws in Piaget's theory in that it overlooked the influence that society has on a young child's development. Not mentioning the effect of diversity on a child's development is also a setback for Piaget's theory.
