3: Lorraine Hansberry (May 19, 1930 – January 12, 1965) African American play writer and author of political speeches, letters, and essays.
4: She wrote “a Raisin in the sun” It was the first play written by an African-American woman to be produced on Broadway.
5: At 29 years, she became the youngest American playwright and only the 5th woman to receive the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play After a long battle with pancreatic cancer she died on January 12, 1965, at the age of 34.

9: As Langston grew up many of his loved ones died. He had a great uncle named John Langston who was the first African American to be in the congress of Virginia. As you go through Langston's life you will find many great things. But also his life was hard in many ways. Due to the fact he was an African American the job world did not want Langston as a writer. He then lived his life as a poet expressing these prejudices.
