1: Rick Hansen was born August 26, 1957 in PortAlberni B.C.As a child he loved sports.At the age of fifteen,he and his friend Don Alder decided to hitchhike home after a fishing trip.A couple minutes later the truck skidded and Rick and Don were thrown out. Don had some scratches but Rick would never walk again.Throughout high school Rick won all-star awards in five sports.At university, he met Terry Fox and they became close friends.
2: Rick was inspired by Terry Fox's trip and decided to go on his own,only he decided to tour the entire world.He called his trip:'Man in Motion.'Rick started his trip at the Oakridge mall in Vancouver in 1985.On his tour he visited 34 countries.When he got back he had raised 26 million dollars.The 'Man in Motion' tour had taken him 2 years to complete.Later Rick won 6medals for Canada in the Paralympic Summer Games.Most recently he was chosen to carry the Olympic Flame into the coliseum at the 2010 Winter Games at Vancouver.
4: Who was your inspiration? I think Rick's inspiration would be Terry Fox because they were close friends and when Terry was unable to finish his run he inspired Rick to go on his own adventure.When Rick went on his adventure he raised 26 million for spinal cord injuries (SCI).
5: What is your greatest fear? I think Rick's greatest fear would be that he wouldn't be able to finish 'Man in Motion' tour because of his disability.He was really brave traveling the world in his wheelchair.Rick's accomplishment was both brave and courageous.
6: Rick Hansen was very brave because most people wouldn't run across the world despite having to legs that work,but Rick did it in a wheelchair.Rick is a great leader and role model because he never stopped believing and whenever he faced an obstacle he remembered his motto:'anything is possible and kept going.I think Rick is a hero because not only did he wheelchair across he showed the world that anything is possible.
