FC: SBSMA Seniors and Friends | June 7, 2009

3: Chris Kato A recent graduate of Bellarmine College Prep, where he received the President's Excellence for Academics Award, Chris has been studying music for eight years. He is a clarinet student of Morris Goldstein. An accomplished golfer, Chris not only enjoys playing the game, but also teaching golf to younger children. His other interests include reading, and tutoring in general. During his high school career, Chris participated in the Bellarmine Symphonic Band. He is currently a member of the SBSMA Wind Ensemble, receiving the Most Improved Musician Award in 2008. Chris will be attending UC San Diego as a Political Science major, with a concentration in International Relations.

5: Eric Pham Eric graduated from St. Francis High School in May, 2009. He is a student of Deborah Goldstein, with whom he has studied for eight years. He was an SBSMA Merit Student in 2005, and chosen as an SBSMA Honors Concert Participant in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Eric is an avid basketball fan, enjoying watching NBA games, playing on the varsity basketball team at St. Francis, and participating in AAU basketball leagues. Eric will be tutoring younger students in geometry this summer, before attending UCLA as a Computer Science and Engineering major.

7: Angela Lillian Chen Angela will graduate from Milpitas High School on June thirteenth. She started piano lessons nine years ago and has been studying with Terry Brown for the past six years. She also plays flute ans was a member of the SBSMA Wind Ensemble from 2004-2008. Other than music, she enjoys drawing, painting, history, archeology, mythology, stitching, knitting and crocheting. Angela has traveled all over the world; with the People to People Ambassadors going to Australia, Italy, Greece and this summer Peru and Chile. Among her accomplishments are a finalist in the Photographer's Forum Magazine's twenty-ninth Annual College Photography Contest. Here photo will be published in the Best of College Photography Annual 2009. She is currently one of the Editors-in-Chief of the Milpitas High School Yearbook, the Saga. Angela received the Gold Cord, and President's Award from Milpitas High School. She was a SBSMA Merit student in 2005 and a SBSMA Honors Student in 2007 and 2008. Angela will attend UC Berkeley in the fall as a double major in English and East Asian Studies and possibly a photography minor. Angela is considering being an English language teacher in Asia (Taiwan or Japan) as a career choice.

9: Christina Vu A student of Terry Brown's, Christina has been studying music for the last seven years. She will graduate from Milpitas High School, where she has been a member of the marching band color guard for two years. Christina has been on the Principal's Honor Roll for five semesters, and will wear the gold cord, symbolizing academic excellence at the graduation ceremonies. Her other interests include reading, poetry and psychology. She will be attending UC Santa Cruz as a psychology major, with the goal of pursuing psychology as a career, helping the mentally ill. She believes that the public needs to be more educated about mental illness, thereby reducing much of the stigma. Christina loves the color purple, and is proud to be left handed.

11: Dorothea Duong A long time music student at SBSMA, Dorothea will graduate from Milpitas High School June thirteenth. She started piano lessons thirteen years ago, first with Aaron Goldstein, and currently with Deborah Goldstein. She was an SBSMA Honors student in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Dorothea also plays flute and enjoys photography and fashion design. She has been on the high school varsity track team for two years. Her plans following graduation include travel, before she joins her brother as a student at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Dorothea intends to major in Biological Science.

13: Kenny Ngo Kenny will be graduating from Milpitas High School on June thirteenth. Kenny has been involved in music for ten years. For the past three years he has been studying percussion with Joe Santoro. He has been a member of the MHS Marching Band Drumline and Concert Band and served as section leader since the start of his junior year. This year, Kenny also performed with the MHS Orchestra, as a clarinetist as well as the award winning Milpitas high School Percussion Ensemble. Kenny will be attending either San Jose State University or UC-Santa Cruz in the fall. His major will be in accounting while his minor will be in music.

15: Alvin Do Alvin is graduating from Piedmont Hills High School in San Jose. He will be attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the fall where his major will be Nutrition. Alvin began his music career as a trumpet player at Milpitas Christian School. There he played trumpet for three years. He earned a Music Award in his last year at MCS. Alvin switched to percussion and has studied here, at SBSMA, with Joe Santoro. Alvin performs with the Christ Community Church Praise Band. He also performed with the Piedmont Hills Orchestra for one year. When Alvin started his percussion studies, he had just earned his Black Belt in Mixed Martial Arts. His other interests and hobbies include skateboarding and camping. Alvin also wants it known that he likes yogurt.
