My name is Carin Piest; I am a twenty year old student at University in Brussels. I am naturally a Dutch speaker from the Flanders area. The following scrapbook is from my Year 7 Spring Semester with photos from our class field trips and other occasions.
After going home from Winter Break for two whole months all our friends wanted so much to come back to Brussels even if it meant doing school work! So we went out and celebrated the first night we got back with dinner! After dinner we went to Celtica to dance and make fun of the Americas and their dancing skills!
Deeply moving field trip especially since everyone’s family has been effect by the WWI even though it happened almost a century ago. | In European History we took a field trip to the WWI museum and took a bike tour through the battle fields in Ypers. It’s so weird to think that this war happened not that long ago with people that today are some of our best allies. How do times change
Because you can not see an individual chemical element, in chemistry class we traveled to the Atomium to study the bond angles and make-up of the element in the larger than life iron molecule.
For Human Communication class we had a group project where we had give a presentation on other types of Human Communication. Our group chose Human Communication through comic books so for inspiration we went to the Comic Book Museum. Our group got an A probably from the great photos we took!
I think the coolest thing about the Museum is all the stories and the free time I am able to read the books in the library! | For some extra spending money this year I decided to get a job at the Psychiatric Museum! I know that sounds really weird but I actually really enjoy it! I am contemplating going to Medical School now!
It’s hard to believe that at the University we can go to a brewery as a field trip but we did! We went to the Heineken brewery as part of Biochemistry class. We went to the science lab there to study the enzymes in the Beer and how they make the beer what it is! Dr. Marcotte let us tour the brewery after we got out of the science lab! So much fun!!
Because of finals none of us were really able to go home for Ascension Day weekend, but we had to celebrate it somehow! Since I am not Catholic, Alaine suggested that we go to Brugges for the morning so that I could see a full Catholic Processional! Very Interesting!
While I am Belgium I am going to be honest I do not think I have actually witnessed chocolate being made! I do know however that I have never made chocolate myself. As part of our chemistry class we went to the Planet Chocolate to witness the heat properties in terms of chocolate! Yummy!
This year has been so much fun! My classes have done such a great job relating the subjects to the real world and letting us out of the classroom for some really great field trips! I am sad to go home for the summer because I will miss all of my friends so much! Luckily there is next year though!
