FC: by. Amy Ortega | The Red Scare

In 1915 the second ku kulx klan was created by pastor William J. Simmons. This Klan focused more on the immigrants, and sometimes religion. This Klan is also the one with the largest number of people. Simmons was known for introducing the burning of the cross which is a usual ritual of the Klan.

Soon after WWI immigration in the US increased dramatically. In 1919 about 110,000 immigrants settled in America. The number increased more than 3x more the amount in that same year.

As with the Red Scare most Americans reacted in a defensive way and felt a threat from the immigrants and feared that the American vision would be destroyed. That's when the Emergency Quota Act of 1921 was passed by congress.

The newly formed quota act controlled the number of immigrants that entered the United States. The act limited the amount of immigrants that were allowed in the United States.

Nicola Sacco a shoe factory worker and Bartolomeo Vanzetti a fish peddler were accused of the murders of two men during a robbery in1921. Both Sacco and Vanzetti were Italian immigrants and were knowns as anarchists. The infamous trial caused up a stir of protests and boycotts. The judge and jury were easily noticed as prejudice and racist against immigrants and especially against the two men's political views. After 7 years of the trial going on the jury determined that Sacco and Vanzetti were guilty on all counts and were executed on August 23, 1927

Racism is still alive today but not as much show n in public like the KKK did or infamous trials such as Sacco and Vanzetti. This proves racism has calmed down and became less a problem. Hopefully people can think differently about this hatred and we can all learn to live with each other peacefully
