2: The attempt to physically destroy Tamils in whole or in substantial part through more than 3,800 extra judicial killings or disappearances; the infliction of serious bodily injury on tens of thousands; the creation of punishing conditions of life, including starvation, withholding medicines and hospital care, humanitarian aid embargoes, bombing and artillery shelling of schools, hospitals, churches, temples; and the displacements of more than 1.3 million civilians into camps, which were then bombed and shelled. - Bruce Fein http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2009/02/15/genocide_in_sri_lanka/ This is very similar to the literature we have already read in class. This article shows the discrimination against Tamils in Sri Lanka is very similar to the Jews in the Holocaust. Even though they may be part of a different setting and at a different time in history they carry the same message.
3: These quotes from Night and All but My life are easily compared to the genocide in Sri Lanka. These quotes cross the boundaries of time and place to show us that no matter who is persecuted, Genocide is a problem even in the modern times.. | "Do you see the chimney over there? see it? Do you see the flames? Over there- thats where you are going to be taken. That's your grave over there." (pg.28 Weisel) "Where is he? Here he is- he is hanging here on this gallows..." ( pg 62 Weisel) "Just after having lost her husband, Aunt Anna just saw her nineteen -year- old son taken away. The men were lined-up, every tenth one was shot. (pg 13 Klein)

7: Living in Sri Lanka the Tamil people are facing annihilation by the Sinhalese government. One of the main conflicts that has occurred here is that the Sinhalese people are Buddhists, as opposed to the Muslim Tamil people. The major Sinhalese parties are trying to take over Sri Lanka by discrimination against the Tamil language, religion, and education. Many Tamils who try and flee the country are captured and denied basic right and provisions. Such provisions include food, and denying medicine to the Tamils. The ways to discriminate and kill these people are endless. The Sri lankan government is guilty of all these acts of Genocide. http://www.greenleft.org.au/2009/780/40219
