BC: THE END thanks for reading
FC: Mark Hinson's Poetry
Sitting quietly listening to his surroundings Concentrating on the teachers sayings Wishing he could understand the chaos While others laugh and enjoy the Feeling alone and cold Just wanting to have someone to hold Sinking into a blank empty place No one believing his worried face Not seeing the agony Asking what he needs to be happy Not knowing the answers And one to turn to for the answers Hopelessly drifting into an abyss Wishing they could hear the words of his lips | People ignore the deep sorrow He wishes there was no tomorrow Every night and day he cries for help His lonely heart even more begins to melt Wanting it all to end he leaves the classroom He is swept away by the horrors like the dust by a broom Walking along not feeling the crowd by his side The laughter, joy, and happiness isn’t felt inside
You left me hanging Why did you leave my life like a string dangling? Wanting for someone to see the hurt Covered all up with dirt Not wanting to show my self Like a dusty book and the shelf | No one understanding the story Of a hurting little boy No where to turn but away No one would look his way Not seeing the suffering and pain The world passing like the speed of a train A never ending cycle of never ending lies A life full of unheard cries Sitting alone viewing life from the dark Feeling nothing of the love of another’s heart This way of life is growing even more Hurting even more to the core Why me?
Imitation - End Rhyme Life full of misunderstanding A boy a lone in the room standing What does it mean to be happy? To even have a glimpse of being happy? Standing alone, wondering if anyone sees People ask, he closes his eyes Weeping like a heavy rain | Words unspoken run down the drain The life of hurt and suffering Continued to be hidden with coverings Nights spent in misery and hopelessness Wanting to have a day of happiness Wondering what to think at night Not wanting to see the day light | Feelings of bitterness and hatred A happy life is overrated Knowing nothing other than despair Wishing to fly away like a bird in the air Wanting to feel loved Joys and dreams washed away by a flood Floods making him gasp for breath Everyday drawing closer to emotional death
Don’t push me cause I’m close to the edge Don’t let me fall off the edge Hug me hold me close to the side of your heart I was told you would love me with all your heart They said it was love at first sight I didn’t want to believe it but I might I’m so close to the edge Don’t leave me hanging on the edge I want to dance the night away As we watch the palm trees sway Like the music of the ocean breeze Your voice feels as calm as a spring breeze Hold me and never let me go I don’t want to lose you and watch you go I want to spend the rest of my life in heaven Walking down the aisle after our weddin' A life of happiness will bring me joy I want a baby boy Don’t let me fall I’ll answer your every call I’ll treat you like a princess You make me breathless I’ll hold you till you die The love we have for each other is more beautiful than the sky You are so beautiful I want to give you a ring of gold I’ll love you till we’re old
Yellowcard - Breathing Eyes are feeling heavy but they never seem to close The fan blades on the ceiling spin but the air is never cold And even though you're next to me I still feel so alone I just can't give you anything for you to call your own And I can feel you breathing And it's keeping me awake Can you feel it beating? My heart's sinking like a weight Something I've been keeping locked away behind my lips I can feel it breaking free with each and every kiss I couldn't bear to hurt you but it's all so different now Things that I was sure of, they have filled me up with doubt And I can feel you breathing And it's keeping me awake Can you feel it beating? My heart's sinking like a weight I can feel you breathing (you're breathing) It's keeping me awake (keeping me awake) Could you stop my heart? It's always beating (it's beating) Sinking like a weight (sinking like a weight) How am I supposed to feel about the things I've done? I don't know if I should stay or turn around and run I know that I hurt you, things'll never be the same The only love I ever knew, I threw it all away And I can feel you breathing And it's keeping me awake Can you feel it beating? My heart's sinking like a weight I can feel you breathing (you're breathing) It's keeping me awake (keeping me awake) Could you stop my heart? It's always beating (it's beating) Sinking like a weight (sinking like a weight)
Yellowcard - Shrink the World If I could then I'd, Shrink the world tonight, So that I would find, You and me inside. A life in love, A picture of, A place I'm nowhere near. A bleeding heart, A good head start, To anywhere but here. Just let me out, Please let me out, Before I turn into a box of things, Reminding me, How much I'm missing out. (I am missing you.) If I could then I'd, Shrink the world tonight, So that I would find, You and me inside. Of the last good scene, A film that changes things. Breaks us, makes us sing, Leaves us wondering. And through the wall my fist you call and then you always run. So what's it for, the love and war, it's only fair for some. You saved the girl you saved the world, Well that's not true it seems. A lesson learned, speak out of turn, I bite my tongue it bleeds. (Bite my tongue it bleeds) If I could then I'd Shrink the world tonight So that I would find You and me inside. Of the last good scene, A film that changes things. Breaks us, makes us sing, Leaves us wondering. Are you wondering? If I could then I'd Shrink the world tonight So that I would find You and me inside. Of the last good scene, A film that changes things. Breaks us, makes us sing, Leaves us wondering. If I could shrink the world tonight. If I could...
COMPARISION - LYRICS VS. POETRY -Both can be rhymed, and some use the same types of rhyme schemes -Lyrics are fit better with a musical beat while poetry sometimes doesn't -Both are often about the same subjects: love, sorrow, happiness etc. -Lyrics and Poetry both can be used to tell stories
I, TOO I, too sing America. I am the darker brother. They send me to eat in the kitchen When company comes. But I laugh, And eat well And grow strong. To-morrow I'll sit at the table When company comes Nobody'll dare Say to me, "Eat in the kitchen" Then. Besides, they'll see how beautiful I am And be ashamed,-- I, too, am America.
MOTHER TO SON Well, son, I'll tell you: Life for me ain't been no crystal stair. It's had tacks in it, And splinters And boards torn up, And places with no carpet on the floor-- Bare. But all the time I'se been a-climbin' on, And reachin' landin's, And turnin' corners, And sometimes goin' in the dark Where there ain't been no light. So, boy, don't you turn back. Don't you set down on the steps 'Cause you find it's kinder hard. Don't you fall now-- For I'se still goin', honey, I'se still climbin', And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
COMPARISON - Langston Hughes vs Yellowcard Langston Hughes -setting is during his time period, when blacks were starting the civil rights movement -tells more stories about blacks and the way they were treated, based on race and how blacks wanted to be considered equal Yellowcard -Doesn't tell stories as if they were a race/group of people that were being segregated against or oppressed -Tells more about the emotions, feelings, actions, dreams, wishes etc of an average person
