FC: Trip to Los Angeles: LA County Museum of Art
Art Appreciation Annie Bosler Project #3 December 12, 2011
My parents were able to come down to Biola and stop and make a visit, as this was a nice refreshing experience to be fueled to persevere to the end of the semester I was also able to convince my mother and father to join me on my art pilgrimage.
When I first heard about the work of art at the LA County Museum of Art provided by my roommate I did not know what to anticipate as far as the sight it would be.
As my parents agreed to be a part of this trip I was very thankful for them. They both have lived in Los Angeles and know the area and freeways quite well. My father expected the I-5 to be busy (which it turned out to be horrendous!!) so he navigated our car around and about the different freeways. This allowed us to make it to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in great time. As the picture here shows there was little traffic for us to contend with as what would have been a nightmare to deal with the I-5. Due to the shortening of travel this made the trip much more enjoyable.
Urban Light | "Together they form a sculpture which I call Urban Light."
Created in 2008 | Artist Chris Burden
THE ILLUMINATION IS INCREDIBLE! | There was a miniature photo shoot going on while we were there which exemplifies how great the lighting was standing within the numerous light posts.
compared to other pieces of art. | This piece of art is very modern and recent
Here you can see the variation of different light posts all which were taken from LA and many adjacent cities
"Urban Light is an artwork that I have created by amassing and restoring a huge collection of 1920's cast-iron streetlamps..." | "Streetlamps are one of the fundamental building blocks of an urban metropolis. The richly detailed fluted lamps are an ornate totem to industrialism and represent a form of public art. " | I appreciated this project as I was able to spend quality time with my parents while enjoying a piece of art i normally would have no idea about
It was such a great experience and I am so happy that I was able to spend it with my parents! This trip will forever be in my mind as a fun little excursion with us three. These are the moments I cherish most and it was cool to be able to see a great piece of work that interested me and was beautifully crafted. I enjoyed the simplicity of the lamp post and how they can uniquely be arranged to form a different picture than their initial purpose. Overall i am thankful for the trip and the event.
