2: How We Met Joel and I met in San Marcos, TX in 2006. I had been working for Cognisa (now First Transit for a semester when he started. He was new to the group and very shy while I was more social with my group of girls that all worked together and hung out. It was not long after that first meeting at a bonfire a coworker was hosting that he and I became friends. He slowly opened up and became more outgoing as time went on, though it was not until his last year at Texas State, a year later, that we really became close. We hung out with the small group of bus drivers that were still at Texas State and we regularly got together every week at his duplex that he shared with three other guys. We enjoyed tossing washers, BBQ'n and just shooting the breeze. I had flirted with him off and on since we first met but never really got any response from him. Then a month before his graduation I decided to stop waiting for him to make the first move. I had been patient but decided that time was running out so I just made my move and kissed him one night. For our first date Joel took me out to a gun range in New Braunfels to shoot his 1911 and his M14. Not your typical first date but we had been friends for a while and he kept telling me he would taking me shooting some time but never did. I guess he was waiting to see if I really wanted to go or was just blowing smoke. After shooting off a few rounds we had dinner at Mamacitas (my favorite Mexican restaurant). The perfect date for the two of us. I found out later that one of the reasons he was a little slow to warm up was because he thought I was a liberal. I am not a liberal but compared to the redneck, South Texas crowd I hung out with anything in the center is liberal. The guys liked to give a particular gay organization a hard time when they would set up shop right next to the place where all the bus drivers congregated in between shifts. After hearing a few too many comments I started speaking up and from then on, I was the liberal conservative in the group.
4: He parked in the park across from The River Pub and we walked along the river just enjoying the quiet and peaceful surroundings. When we were in school we would get together with a group of friends and go hang out at the tube chute on the San Marcos river when the Comal was too busy or the Guadalupe was not open. When we arrived at the tube chute that night it was so relaxing just Joel and I. The only sound was the water flowing through the chutes making you feel like you were out in the middle of nowhere and not in the middle of the city. We were just reminiscing about the good times, all the fun we had, the stupid things that we would do and all the funny situation and conversations we would have while on the river. Then all of a sudden I turn around and find him on one knee and digging in his pants pocket pulling out a ring. Completely off guard, I stood there speechless trying to figure out if this was really happening. Once my heart started again I said yes! Being in San Marcos where we met and next to the river were we hung out so many times was really romantic. I know to some that might sound strange, but that is us, and Joel could not have picked a better place. | Joel and I were heading down to New Braunfels on April 17th to stay with my aunt and uncle at their new house. They had recently purchased a new washer and dryer and were selling their old one to us to go in the house I hoped was coming soon. Joel and I were also hoping to find the dewberry patch in San Marcos ready for picking so we could bake a dewberry pie. Like always, the wind was against us and we did not arrive in San Marcos till just after dark. Joel told me that we needed to stop by the river just to check to see if the dewberries were ready because if they were he was going to call his parents so they could come up for the weekend. Like me, I believed him hook, line and sinker. Just the weekend before his parents had taken us by the monument to check out the dewberries but we were disappointed to find them not ready. So why would I not believe him | 4.17.09 The Proposal

17: Treasured Memories With the youngest guest there being Dee. I was worried that I would not receive too many good gifts and it would be a little boring. But the best came from Aunt Sandy. The first thing I unwrapped from her was a leopard teddy. There was also a matching red underwear wrapped up. When I made the comment about here are my comfortable ones she said "no, those are for Joel"! They were mens speedos . It got even better when she told me they came part of a pack she got.
