FC: KYLE/BUDA VFW POST 12058 LADIES AUXILIARY YOUTH ACTIVITIES 2011-2012

Youth Activities encompasses many areas in the Ladies Auxiliary. We at the Kyle/Buda VFW Post 12058 Ladies Auxiliary are extremely proud this year to have a Junior Girls Unit attached to our group. We highlight them on the cover of this scrapbook to show our pride in their growth during their short existence. We look to them to grow as leaders of the community and continue to support our veterans through the years.

Working with the Kyle/Buda VFW Post 12058, the Ladies Auxiliary assisted with the 1st NFL Punt Pass and Kick Competition sponsored by the Post. It is part of the National Football League’s commitment to Play 60 program. Ladies Auxiliary members arrived to set up the registration area, food counter, and competition stations. The Junior Girls Program was also part of the membership drive with two new girls being recruited. The competition began at 12 noon and continued until 6:00 pm. There was good community participation in the event. One of our Hays County Court Commissioners participated in the "dunk tank".

Working with the Kyle/Buda VFW Post 12058, the Ladies Auxiliary assisted with the concession stand at the Kyle Invaders' home football game on Saturday October 22, 2011. The Event was held at Simon Middle School on HWY 150 in Kyle. As this event was for the students in the Kyle/Buda area, tables were set up to promote the Creative Art Project, the Voice of Democracy Project and the Patriot's Pen Project. Many applications for all projects were distributed. | Kyle Invaders

The Kyle/Buda Ladies VFW Auxiliary Post 12058 and the VFW Post members participated in The Dia de Los Muertos Extravaganza held at Gregg-Clark Park in Kyle on Saturday November 5, 2011, from 10 – 2. We arrived at the park with the VFW members approximately 9:00 to begin set up. We had patriotic coloring pages at our table for local youth. With over 2500 community members participating in this annual event, we had a very popular table. We did recruiting for the Ladies Auxiliary and the Junior Girls.

The Kyle/Buda VFW Post 12058 along with the Ladies Auxiliary assisted in publicizing the Citizenship Educator awards. One award went to a K-5 teacher at Kyle Elementary, Ms. Bertha Ensley. The VFW Post and Ladies Auxiliary attended the award ceremony at Lehman High School for the 9-12 educator Mr. Brian Hemple of Lehman High School. The event at Lehman High School was also covered by the Hays Free Press. Picture is from the Hays Free Press.

The Kyle/Buda VFW Post 12058 along with the Ladies Auxiliary began work on the promotion and school participation in the Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen programs in August 2011. Representatives of the Post and Auxiliary met with the Hays Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent to garner support for the programs. The District was very supportive providing us with introductory letters to present at each school so the program information would be distributed to all students, teachers and parents. Ladies Auxiliary and Post members visited 11 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 3 high schools in three days during the first week of school (last week in August). Each building was very supportive and cooperative. We also promoted participation at tables we set up at Kyle Market Days, Punt-Pass-and Kick competition, Hootenanny on the Hill, and Kyle Invaders Volunteer Day. Participation was excellent with over 40 entrants. Essays were judged by members of the Post, Ladies Auxiliary and community. On November 21 the winners, Tenley Lehman from Chapa Middle School - Patriot's Pen and Stephen Luna from Hays High School - Voice of Democracy, were presented with their Certificates and Scholarship Checks.

The Junior Girls gathered at the VFW Post to make Christmas Cards for our troops in Afghanistan. Together they made cards to be placed in the packages that were sent to our troops.

The Christmas Cards made their way to Afghanistan. Captain Widmar Roman sent these pictures back to the girls with thanks from his men for their thoughtfulness!

On December 20, 2011 the Junior Girls visited Hays County Judge Beth Smith's Courtroom. Judge Smith spoke to the girls about that she did in her role as a judge and how long she held the position. She explained that her position was an elected one and that she had to campaign every four years. She let the girls know how much she loves her job and her reasons for becoming a judge.

Kyle/Buda VFW Post 12058 Ladies Auxiliary Junior Girls Unit presented a Cheer of Pride and Support at the VFW/Ladies Auxiliary Mid Winter Meeting held in Austin, Texas. The girls practiced their cheer at their regular meetings and additional times also. Their practice was evident in their presentation and was well received by the Ladies Auxiliary members from across the state.
